Balancing wheels

Hey all, how often do we need to balance our tires and rims? Either OEM or aftermarket? I kinda get conflicting answers

According to America's Tire, I get mine rotated and balanced every 3K miles. I have aftermarket rims and tires.

IM sure it depends on teh type of tire and size of rim.

every 10k miles or once a year, or when you have excessive vibrations at ~60mph.

that's my rule.

I've yet to have mine balanced and I've got 33k on them. However, I have rotated them 3 times.

I balance the wheels only as needed. As far as I can remember, the only time I had my wheels balanced was when I had new tires installed.

Thats what a friend of mine told me that you usually balance a tire/wheel once, basically when you get a new rim or tire on. But I was thinking it should be more often than that since some of the weights they add on the rim might get loose or fall off over time and mileage. Just looking to see if there is certain mileage or months when you do it, like oil changes etc.

If the work is done right, the weight should come off. However, they can come off if you scrape the curb while parking, or poor adhesion to the wheel due to poor prep work. In which case, the wheel will be out of balance and you usually can tell due to the vibration.

Btw, I think most tire places offer few lifetime balance and rotation service if you buy the tires there. So if you feel the need to have them re-balanced on a regular schedule, just ask them to do it during the tire rotation service. They will at least check them for you on the spinner.
