Break In Period
i just got my brand new 2006 tsx with navi. i was wondering if i could take it to the track and test it out tomorrow, even though i only have 250 miles on it, which doesnt match the 600 miles needed to break it in. Should i wait till i hit 600, or does it not matter? thanks

The engine can take the track. In fact it is good to break the engine in on the track. But the rest of the drivetrain and brakes take longer to break in and those should be broken in gently. I'd do only about 4 laps, 2 of which are warm up and cool down laps.
And no chasing for the fastest lap, the stress on your drivetrain (which takes 600 miles to break in) will cause premature wear.
After trackday change your engine oil and filter STRAIGHT AWAY.

The not changing break in oil applies if your car stays on the streets and not on the track.

What is the break-in period of my Acura?
Help assure your vehicle's future reliability and performance by paying extra attention to how you drive during the first 600 miles (1,000 kilometers). During this period:
- Avoid full-throttle starts and rapid acceleration.
- Avoid hard braking. New brakes need to be broken in by moderate use for the first 200 miles (300 km).

BTW, remember that australian Accord Euros had a 600 mile 1st oil change? Now for cars built after Feb 2006, we follow the 6000 mile 1st service instead. The oil colour has changed from a golden brown to a slight greenish tinge. Do TSXs have the greenish tinge oil from the factory?

Break your car in normally, why take a chance with a brand new daily driver. Wait for your 1st service at 5K and get a loaner TSX for a day or two. Then go to the track and have fun with the loaner and save the 06.
I know it is hard to resist being 16 and having a new car and push the TSX to your limits. You should start paying for the gas, insurance, maintenance, mods, and car payment yourself and I think taking your car on the track with under 300miles on the ODO would not be an issue.

another thing about the 600 miles, i'm pretty sure the break-in period is probably qualified for something like 450-550 miles, but the 600 miles is used to ensure a safety factor or in quality engineering terms....a higher sigma level for qualification purposes....
