5000 RPM Perfect Launch
5000 RPM Perfect Launch
i was reading baravian autosport (BMW mag) and i noticed about how the poeple who own m3s and such get perfect launches by just holding down the gas pedel. the car supposedly stops the rev point at 5000 to get a perfect launch. Naturally, i went to my TSX and held down the gas pedel. It stops at 5000 too!! But i have an AT....
has anyone with an MT tried this before???
has anyone with an MT tried this before???
i didnt do it becuase i have an auto
thats why i was asking someone with an MT to try it...
actually when you put it in to sportshifter mode does it start on neutral or does it start on 1st (I would try it myself, but mi dad took my car)
and if i put the car in neutral then changed to 1st woudn't it damage something....

It's different. M3s have launch control built into the software. When you hold the TSX gas pedal, it bounces off at 4500rpm, while with the M3, it HOVERS at 5000rpm.
Plus, the M3 has more traction, so a launch control program will work. The TSX being FWD will just struggle for grip when you are giving it full gas if the road conditions aren't perfect.
BTW, if you have an auto, there is sort of a "trick" to launch. It will wear your clutch pack slightly though. You stop the car and put it in 1st or D (depending on your preference), hold your brakes with your left foot and apply light gas with your right. The RPM should go up to around 1500-2000rpm. Then release the brakes and floor it down at the same time. You'll get a better launch than if you just planted the gas pedal down alone.

My TSX has a 4500 RPM rev limiter when I'm not underway--either clutch in or gearbox in neutral.
Also, the throttle programming seems completely different when the clutch is depressed--response is more sluggish and much less sensitive than with the clutch out.

If you put it in neutral and dump into 1st, you WILL DAMAGE your gearbox.

You can practice this without driving the car. Just keep the car off and go through this process.

I tried it at the track and the wheel hop was a killer, best was to hold it at around 3500-4000.
a friend of mine has a EP3 CTR and his car bounces as something like 5500-6000rpm and he launches like that, his best time to date is 13.8sec, on slicks with fujitsubo exhaust and a high flow cat(or a test pipe canīt remember)
so it works on the civic but I donīt know maybe we need more power so that it will just spin the tires and not start the wheel hoppin?
anyway I would love to be able to launch a little higher, and be rid of the wheel hop
