Wheel spin when it's raining
Wheel spin when it's raining
Hi everyone,
When i am driving under a rainy condition, my car has some wheel spins even though the VSA is on. Especially when i am making a right or left turn from a still position. For all cases, i just accelerate to about 2500 rpm (maximum). I'm wondering whether my VSA is working or out.
Is it normal? Have anybody experienced this kind of situation before?

your vsa's working fine, to tell the truth id be more upset if the TSX couldnt get some wheel spin , its a 4 cyl but its gotta have some torque, all ur dealing w/ is a temporary loss of traction from rest

If you sense wheel hop, I'd suggest backing off the throttle immediately. Even hard core drag race setups are not unbreakable when it comes to wheel hop causing broken differential parts.
With wheel hop your tire literally bounces up and down on the tarmac which causes serious stress on parts. Wheel spin is harmless for the most part except it wears out tires.

I've noticed my wheels spin a couple of times on wet roads when I try to accelerate and turn from a standing stop. It seems like it spins and then stops and then I guess the other tire catches and the car finally moves forward. This is with an automatic with VSA on.

If you step on the gas and the wheel spins and keeps spinning then either your VSA is off or there is a problem with the VSA. With VSA you should be able to keep your foot on the gas and the VSA will automatically reduce engine power or apply brakes to reduce the slipping.
IMHO the stock tires are the main culprit for the wheel spin, or you have a lead foot.
Look to get better performance tires to reduce your wheel spin. I just can't beleive that the stock tires are listed at $183 USD (tirerack).
EDIT: Added the traction control component description.

The traction control component of VSA® uses sensors that monitor the front wheels and computer-controlled modulation of engine power and front brakes to help prevent wheel spin when starting out or accelerating. If the sensors detect excessive front-wheel spin during acceleration, the traction control function automatically closes a secondary throttle valve until wheel spin stops. This helps the TSX maintain traction during acceleration and helps the driver retain steering control, even when accelerating on slippery surfaces.
