Vibrations while Accelerating

I was noticing some problems while accelerating between 50 and 70 MPH in 4th, 5th, and 6th gears in my TSX. It was causing such a vibration that my passenger seat was actually visibly shaking. So I took it into Ed Voyles here in Atlanta and they took it for a test drive and told me that they believe it was the Axle Joint on the passenger side that had gone bad. They obviously had to order the part, so I was given a new '06 TL Loaner overnight. I got the car back the next day and they had replaced both Axle Joints on both the passenger and driver sides. Now the vibration is gone and the car feels new again. It was all covered under warranty and I just got to drive a TL for 2 days.

Just FYI

wow... a CV joint went out... I would think the balancer would move on you before a CV would go out. Did you have a tear in the CV boot or anything? How many miles do you have?

Hey Wiz, I just picked up a 2006 TSX from Ed Voyles Acura also last week!

Sorry for the unrelated question, but I was looking through pics of your car, and noticed you have them tinted. Can I ask where you went to get the tint and if they did a good job? I'm looking for a place to get mine tinted in Atlanta area....

Thanks.

I'm not sure if I have the same problem as you but I get vibration while accelerating between 20-30 MPH in either 1st or 2nd gear.

Any ideas on what may be causing this?

If the vibration is in the front; check your tires fir proper balance and the bearings. Without knowing your cars milage it tought to advise.

I have about 65,000 Miles and have only noticed this vibration within the last 5,000 Miles.

I have just over 44,000 miles on my car and I have had it since April of '03. To tell if the vibration is your tires or not...give it gas until you feel the vibration and then push in the clutch. If the vibration continues then it's your tires, but if the vibration goes away (which it did on mine) then it is something else. I felt minor vibrations at slower MPH in the lower gears, but nothing like the one I felt around 60 MPH in the upper 3 gears. It never hurts for you to take it in and have Acura look at it. Unfortunately if you are at 65,000 miles you're out of your warranty unless you got the extended, so you may be stuck footing the bill if it is something major.

I'm not sure what happened to the joint, I was just told it had gone bad. I did not see it once they pulled it out of the car, so I can't tell you first hand how bad it looked, but I thought it was surprising it went bad so early.

As for my windows, I got them tinted at some place over in Kennesaw/Marietta area. One of the members of this board (Jab something) recommended them and they did a great job. It's 20% all the way around and I have not had one bubble or peeling problem with them yet! I doubt I will go back to them in the future though just because they are so far away (I live in Suwanee now).

Good Luck!

Wiz:

What do you do to test this if one has an automatic transmission?

To test with an auto, maybe slide the car into neutral when you feel the vibration, or simply quit accelerating and let the car coast. Anytime you are not accelerating and you feel a vibration, it's probably a problem with your tires. If you feel a vibration when accelerating but then it goes away when you let off the gas, the problem is elsewhere.
