Can't REV Engine over 5k when trans in park?

Hi everyone.

I came across something today on my 04 TSX 5AT. here's what happen. after a nice dinner out, I got in to my TSX and start it like normal. Crank.crank crank. the enging won't start. then I did it a again. (Crank it longer then normal) but this time the engine starts. so it let the car idle for a bit then just give it some gas while the transmision is still in Park. but I have notice that the engine can't rev over 5000rpm. it's like there's a gas cut off at 5000rpm.?? what wrong? is there a rev limit on the engine at 5000rpm when the tranny is in park?

any help would be great. i just want to see if this is normal before i call the dealer.

Thanks. I rev the engine because the engine is idling really rough. I only went in for dinner for about an hour. and the engine is still warm.... so there is a rev limit i guess.. this is my first honda that does that.

Theres really no need to rev at all, I just let the car warm up a bit till the engine has lowered to like 600 rpms and slowly take the car out till the temperature guage moves up then I drive more agressively.

Do a search, but it isn't supposed to rev over that. First of, it isn't good to rev a motor... it isn't meant for that.

You need to diagnose the issue of why it won't start... reving it won't solve that issue.

The AT, when in neutral, has a fuel cutoff at 5Krpm. I think its because its bad for the engine to be revved that high without load on it.

so the fact it did not start right away doesn't concern you ?

okay. then there's a rev-limit on it. that's good to know. so now I have to get the car checked out for hard starting.

You are forgetting the point that you shouldn't rev like that either. If your car can idle smoothly, just take it in. Revving it does nothing.

Its there to keep you from doing neutral drops at 7300rpm.

Sometimes if you dont hold the key on the car won't start on a cold day, maybe check the sparks plugs.

i thought this was due to some kind of emission thing. Like the car trys to start the car with the lowest possible emission output.

No, it is so numbnuts stop over revving their motors with no load on them.

Before you turn your engine off, let your car idle for a few seconds until your RPM drops from 800-900rpm to 600-700rpm. Then turn it off. The hard starting probably comes from the combustion chamber being wet with fuel when you turn your engine off immediately after you stop. It happens to my car too.

Interesting, I've never heard that before. I know it is better to have the car at operating temp then shutting it of, but that had more to do with getting the spark plugs up to self-cleaning temp than anything else.

You'll love the K24, just not the DBW.

I like the K24, it's just that I'm really not use to driving a AT. and also the DBW. It feels like I don't have full control of the car sometime. but now. I can do a lot more while i'm driving. like read the paper's on the way to work, drink coffee, watch a DVD, shave.... just kidding. I'm a safe driver.
