unexpected acceleration

unexpected acceleration
Has anyone experienced unexpected acceleration? Twice in the past few months including today, as I was coming to a stop, the engine accelerated unexpectedly even though I was braking. The first time it stopped when I pushed hard on the brakes. This morning I had to take the car out of gear. It is a 2004 auto. Checked for floor mat interference since that has been an issue with Toyota but there is little or no contact. Clearly not enough to cause the degree of acceleration experienced. Pedal operates evenly when manually pushed.

You probably didn't know and didn't apply the brake evenly. Maybe you let go of the brakes just a little (without knowing) which caused the inertia of your car to keep moving. Other than that if there was one report of this ACTUALLY happening, we would all know it.

The TSX isn't even in the top 95 of UA complaints according to NHTSA...the only Honda/Acura in the top 50 is the RL at #25.

It is blatantly obvious that the esarver is clearly a toyota owner who firmly believes in the "misery loves company" as he feels like crap for owning a toyota, and wants Honda/Acura people to share the crapness also.
Next time, you may want to post few more topics before you start off with the "unexpected accel" post as your first post.
I drive a manual, so it doesn't matter anyways. Push in the clutch.

The TSX accelerator pedal is very different in configuration from the Toyota design.
The pedal bottom is attached to the floor - the Toyota pedal is detached from the floor and pivots on a lever mounted up on the firewall. This makes the "floor mat jammed under the accelerator" much more difficult for a TSX.
The sensor for the drive-by-wire is mounted in the engine compartment on the firewall - the Toyota sensor is part of the pedal assembly on the firewall in the passenger compartment. I don't know the workings of the sensor so I can't comment on how they work.
The accelerator pedal on the TSX pushes on a mechanical cable that passes through the firewall to the above mentioned sensor in the engine compartment. In some ways, the TSX accelerator pedal is very much like a standard car used for years except that there is an electronic sensor at the end (rather than the throttle).
These are all significant differences from the Toyota design. It doesn't mean that there cannot be a problem but the Toyota explanations probably don't apply to the TSX drive-by-wire system.

Psh, Toyotas don't even have this problem. The DBW system is a double redundant feedback system. The chances of it failing this catastrophically is smaller than winning the lottery. There's a reason Toyota maintains that this is an issue with the floormats and not the electronics.
This whole thing is just a stupid overblown media frenzy. I hope the media smartens up and realizes that a lot of American jobs are supplied by Toyota.

I have size 14 shoes and there is a possibility they were pressing the gas and brake at the same time. I've done this once or twice when I first purchased the TSX. I'm thinking they just need to double-check their foot placement while braking.
