TSX got keyed across whole side. Need temporary fix..
Another victim of jealousy here. Discovered that the car got keyed across both door panels and rear fender. It's hard for me to tell if the scratch is deep to the metal but I was wondering if I could apply something to it to prevent rust for the time being? I suppose I'll get a quote and hopefully it just requires some buffing and not repainting. I'm just afraid of fixing it and then having it done again cause I live in a shitty apartment building and asshole can get into the garage as they please. The cameras we have just point at the doorways and such so they are pretty much useless.
rule of thumb....if u can catch ur fingernail over any part of the scratch, you will need a good touchup job or an entire repaint. if you can't catch ur fingernail, all you need is a good polish. sorry that happened to you...its never cool to vandalize another person's property...

good god, man, i am really sorry that happened to you.
my car was recently keyed, but not nearly as bad. regardless, you'll need to get that re-painted. cost me about $350 for one door panel, gas lid, and some random touch-up. so i'm guessing yours will easily be north of that.
if you can't get it fixed and you're worried about rust, maybe put some painter's tape over the scratches where metal's exposed? that's the only temporary thing i can think of.

$350 just for a door panel?!
Isn't there some wax I could apply along the scratch or something to go through a winter? I would rather not shell out so much money right now..
what you could also do is try to find a body shop that will fill in the scratch, and then wetsand it down and put clear over it. unfortunately, they want to make more money off of you so they will probably recommend a repaint of the panels
if you don't want to fork over the money, you could also clean out the scratch with rubbing alcohol and then apply touchup paint.

just to give you an idea, a car had scraped one of my rear fenders, gaslid, bumper, and the total cost to get that done was $950 (after talking it down from like $1100). you're dealing with three pretty large surface areas (2 doors, rear fender), which is why i'm just guesstimating that it'll be kinda pricey.
the touch-up paint is a good solution to preventing rust if you plan on painting when you have funds after the winter. you'll just have to deal with the ugliness of the touch-up, which is sometimes as ugly as the scratch itself. but at least you don't have to worry about rust. the painter's tape is just a short-term solution like if you were waiting a week.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I will consider the suggestions. I wouldn't even mind this scratch for the winter if I could just protect it from rusting but I don't see how I'd be able to do that without touchup paint (which WOULD look pretty nasty) or getting it fixed.. I'll just have to wait until the next weekend to get some quote. I'll keep everyone posted
mine was worst, my car got key pretty much all around, 4 door, and one 1/4 panel, and rear bumper. Have been Touching it up whenever it needed...and it has been almost a year. i dont ever bother to fix it as long as its not rusting. It is all because my car got keyed in a week since i got the car and it didnt have full coverage on yet...so sucks for mr
