Trunk release under "A" not working

For some reason within the last 2 months or so my rear trunk release has stopped working. The fob and handle work fine, but I can't figure out why the hell the button outside isn't working. Oh and yes I checked the switch in the glovebox. Any suggestions?

Have you done any sound dampening or anything up under the trunk liner? I installed some dampening material and thought I was being careful, but when I was done the latch didn't work just like you are describing. I can only think the heat gun I used got too hot and fried some of the thin wires in the latch. Fortunately, I got rear ended and it got fixed!

No i haven't added anything, but my drunk was completely full of random clothes and a guitar for like 3 weeks. Anyone think maybe the stuff shifted and hit something? I didn't think of that because i figured if it had then the fob wouldn't be working also.

Had this same problem a couple of weeks ago. Took the car to the dealer, they said the switch (under the key slot in the cabin) had become disaligned and fixed it under warrenty.

It's a quick fix for them.

Have you tried taking it back to the dealership and have them fix it? That might work.

What switch are you talking about? There's a switch in the glove box to disable the trunk release?

I had the same problem. Doors were unlocked; glove box switch on and still nothing. With the lid open, I pressed the interior latch back and forth a few times (the one that glows in the dark should you be trapped in the trunk). Then tested the exterior trunk release button, and miraculously I could hear the unlock firing. I closed the lid, and like magic it worked again.

Can't explain the fluke, just thought I'd add my own experience and hope it will help someone to avoid a dealer repair

Could be that the car lost 'touch' with the state of the trunk latch. The service manual has an entore section troubleshooting these problems. Perhaps when you forced the latch open and closed the car picked up the sensor state again and everything was good. Just a tought...
