Trouble Starting with high humidity

Hi all,

I did a search for humidity but didn't see anything similar to what I'm experiencing. I have 2007 TSX and lately I've been having trouble starting it when the humidity has been high, otherwise it starts fine. For example today is fluctuating between 75-90% humidity, went to the store and had trouble starting it when trying to leave. Tried going to the gym 30mins later and the car wouldn't finish starting. All this week the humidity has been pretty normal, ~50% or so, and I've had no issue starting the car, starts up right away. Windows, radio, and such work, it's just when I turn the key fully it tries to start but then just fails.

Any ideas or thoughts? I called the shop but can't get in till tomorrow. According to the weather it's only going to be 50% humidity so I'm not sure we'll be able to reproduce it.

Thanks! - John

You mention humidity but not temperature, how is the temperature there? Have you checked things like your air filter and grounds, battery terminals?

Temp isn't bad, only 71. Attached is a picture of the battery. It's my 2nd one so far, but I believe it's stock.

I would go ahead and clean those terminals, Get a battery terminal brush and go to town on it

Thanks! Scrubbed the hell out of the terminals. That seemed to help, though humidity is lowering here so that could help as well. Though now I'm getting a 'CODE' error on the stereo lol. Time to get the VIN and see if this site works. https://radio-navicode.acura.com/

Radio code should be in your owners manual binder - usually on a credit-card sized card.

The OEM battery isn't the greatest and it might be giving you an heads up about its condition. My OEM battery in my TSX and RDX failed without warning within 3-4 year of being new. So far, I am at 4 1/2 yrs on my OEM battery on my MDX. It wouldn't hurt to take the battery down to have it tested at Costco, interstate battery, etc... Both of those places sell batteries for about $100 that will last the advertised warranty period. I've had zero issues with my interstate battery replacement in my TSX or RDX. I would even pop the two covers to check the cells to make sure the internal fluids is above the plates.

It could just be corrosion sucking up moisture on the terminals during high humidity limiting the cranking amps during start-up. Wouldn't hurt to check the battery power levels and the entire electrical system just incase. Call ahead, some places might do it for free.
