AC issue in 2004 TSX

Hey guys I have a 2004 tsx that is now blowing hot air constantly. This time last year, it was intermittently blowing cold A/c then hot A/C when it finally failed and kept blowing hot A/C. I took it to my repairman and he said I had a leak and was low on Freon. So, they fixed all of those issues and everything worked fine up until a couple weeks ago. He actually passed away on a bike accident so now I need to figure it out on my own. I've been reading through the forums and need some confirmations and your opinions. The heater blows HOT air just fine, but when I turn the temperature down manually to the "Lo" setting it isn't as hot but it is still really hot for a summer day. When the hood is open and I am staring at the compressor, it spins constantly without stopping or starting. Isn't that an issue, I mean shouldn't it start and stop normally? After reading about what everyone has to say about ac issues I think my would be the AC relay simply because the compressor runs constantly. I would then refill/sill with something like ACP-100 if needed for good measure. What do you guys think?

There are three relays with the same part no, located in the fuse/relay box in your TSX. Going by memory, I believe the AC relay is the upper one. Swap that one out, by pulling it out, with another one of the two. See if that solves your issue.

I actually found the A/C relay and it's the box in the middle of the three box line up inside of the fuse box in the hood (if that made sense). Anyway I tried to swap them out, but the fuses on either side are taller and actually 5-prong versus the 4-prong A/C relay. Since I could't swap them out and the problem persisted even when the A/C relay wasn't even in the car, I just ordered one I found off of ebay. Hopefully that will fix the issue, I'll know when It comes in the mail next week

Compressor pulley turns all the time (has to w/ belt attached). Inner part of the clutch (plate) only turns when the AC engages the clutch w/ electromagnetic force. You should hear a firm click when clutch engages and see the end part turning, which turns the compressor, enabling AC function. When compressor is not commanded, you should see the clutch plate stationary.

W/ low refrigerant charge, the compressor usually cycles rapidly on/off, or if too low a pressure switch opens and disables the compressor to protect the compressor. Too low refrigerant won't carry the lubricant causing internal compressor damage.

You may need some professional help. Suggest an Angie's List subscription and hunt for Auto service shops w/ good rep. A shop specilalizing in AC repair is the best bet.

good luck

Are you saying I could have too low of a pressure too? Would the fact that whoever last worked on my A/C lost the low-side pressure cap have any effect on that or does the cap simply keep debris out of the lines?

Yes, you could have low pressure due to a leak. If the compressor is not engaging, that is likely. Did you determine whether compressor is ever engaging?

A schrader valve will sometimes leak, and the caps are designed to provide an additional leak barrier. That said, I've had a car w/o HP cap that worked just fine for years.

good luck

Hey sorry for the delayed response. Yeah it's been working great. The part says Relay Denso on it and has the numbers 156700-2680 on it too. I actually typed the info into google that I just gave you and bought the equivalent off of eBay from a company called Omron that makes my other relays

AC Relay

I ordered the AC Relay for my 2004 Acura TSX, but I think they gave me the wrong one.
