Trip Computer Question

I have a new 2006 TSX. According to the owners manual (pg 70) the trip computer should return to the previous display setting when the car is restarted and the key is in the ON (II) position. Mine will not do this and always reverts to a blank screen when the car is started. Is this an issue with ALL 2006 cars? Is there a way to reset/reprogram the Trip Computer to default to the ALWAYS ON setting as the manual suggests?

By the way, my car has the rough idle when cold that other members describe. It does not, however, have the 'windshield noise' that is also common.

Can't help you, but just wanted to commend you for posting in the right section.

Not many (any) first time posters get it right.

Thanks

Thanks to both of you! As an owner of the TSX and a vintage 1991 NSX I am proud to be the newest member of your community. An an aside, your forum also seems a bit friendlier and more informative than those for BMW which I also belong to!

I don't want to hijack this thread with questions but it would be interesting to know if you own a BMW. If so, what year/model.

Go ahead and start a new thread in TSX discussions to introduce yourself.

Dom,

I do indeed own a BMW and have owned several in the past. At present, I have a 2001 330 Cic convertible. I bought the TSX because the BMW is the most treacherous car I have EVER driven in the snow that we get occasionally up here in Michigan. Once the sun returns (sometime in May, usually!), that BMW is an absolute pleasure to drive. I keep my NSX in relative storage year round because I have 2 kids who would fight to ride in it at the same time; hence the 4 seat BMW!

Again, thanks for the friendly welcome!

docray, my 06 is doing the same thing right now, but I believe this is adjustable through the MID adjustment controls. You need to go through the adjustment of the MID and set it so that it will always return to the chosen setting instead of the blank screen. Give it a try and let me know if you need any more specific directions.

And welcome, btw

I have been through all of the MID settings and can find nothing that tells it to "return to the chosen setting instead of the blank screen". I am able to set up what I want the primary screen to be, but the car always returns to blank when it is restarted. I have even tried to return to the "default" settings allowed with no success. I would be interested to see if anyone can get theirs set up to default to an active display. This is what the owners manual says should happen on pg 70. Again, thanks for the kind welcome!

Lights On!

Now to make things even more curious, when my TSX is started and I turn the lights on, voila! The Trip Computer pops on as I had hoped it would. I dont know why turning on the lights would affect this function, though. The mystery continues. . .

I have noticed the exact problem you are talking about...I believe it must be a software problem in the trip computer...other than not coming on like it is supposed to, everything on it seems to work fine. Kind of a pain though.

Yep, mine has this bug too. Sometimes it comes on automatically when I start the car, sometimes I have to turn it back on manually.

OK; now I figured out why mine turns on occasionally and not at other times. If you do ANYTHING that activates the display, such as opening a door, opening the trunk, leaving the lights on, etc, then the display will default back to the "ON" setting like its supposed to. If you dont do anything like that, the display stays blank. It clearly must be a software issue. I have a relative who works for Acura; I am forwarding this issue to him and also my concerns about the rough idle. I will post any answers I get from him.

did you find any resolution to this issue?

Acura Engineers claim the owners manual is wrong and they WANT the system to default to a blank display so as not to be an annoyance to drivers, especially at night. Why it remains on after a door or trunk is opened and closed remains a mystery to me. Given the ability to customize the MID, you would think we would have the option to leave it on.

I have a new 06. When you restart, push the "i" button and the display that was up when the ignition was turned off re-appears.

I have a wierd problem with my computer though - it won't give me accurate average speed. A 200 km trip at 125 and the average speed didn't go above 5o km/hr!

Anyone else with this?
