Question Tint Causes Rattle

So I took my TSX in a 2nd time for my latest rattle & they told me that it was caused by the tint -- has anyone else had this problem? They said bc my tint runs to the top of the window, it is rubbing against the running-something (forgot what they called it but it is the black part at the top of the window).

They then showed me another TSX where the tint stopped about an inch from the top. When the window is up, you could never tell it was not completely tinted but when he lowered the window, you could see where it stopped.

Does this sound right to anyone else or is that just their way of saying we cannot figure out how to stop the rattle so we are gonna put the blame on someone else?

Thanks!

It doesn't make any sense at all! They are just too lazy to find the actual cause of the problem. Try bring it to another dealer.

I don't believe that the tint will cause the rattle. However, my tint did not go all the way to the top of the window. There is a fine gap from the tint film to the edge of the windows.

Fully knowing we won't tear our tints to fix the rattle- the dealers excuse is exactly that.

I even have it on paper:

"C/S states driver side window rattles"
-Tints disrupt factory spacing. Informed customer and lubricated rubbers.

WTF! What if the window is down? It's people like that give dealer service a bad rep.

Cool Hmm

I find the excuse suspicious myself but he did say that if you roll the window down, even slightly, the rattle goes away. I will have to test it later.

I just wonder if there is some truth to it, even tho it sounds absurd, but that other car did have the tint ending a good inch below the top of the window (I assume there was a reason).

Unfortunately, the next closest dealer is not that convenient but we shall see ...

I shall keep u posted

The rattles DO dissappear once the windows are slightly down (and by slightly, i'm talking about centimeters), but here's the thing- The rattles on the driver's door was present before the tint.

Anyway, the best option would to lubricate the rubbers yourselves (on a bi-weekly basis) or try another dealership.

Jeff

My 04 has the same problems on all 4 windows. It's the rubber seal at the top where the window closes. My dealer told me, they got "hardened" over time, therefore causing the "squeaking". So I hit him back and said, well... only 5000 miles on the odometer is a long time for the rubber seals to harden -_____-

They were replaced under warranty, now the squeaking is back! I never got an excuse like that from my dealer all 3 trips prior to replacement though. I rode in my friend's 05 TSX and he has the same tint on his car, there is no squeaking at all, so have your dealer explain that. I'm going in to have it checked again, it's getting frustrating.

Thumbs down Squeaking Seals

This might be useful info, I dunno:

I had a rattle/squeak in the sunroof fixed, and learned from the service manager that Acura's rubber seals work a little differently than those of other manufacturers. They are actually engineered to leak -- rather than being watertight, the seals allow water in but direct it to a channel, where it is conveyed away.

In other words, Acura's rubber seals do not jam hard against the body -- the pressure at the contact point is fairly low.

As a result, wind buffetting can cause the seal rubber to vibrate against the bodywork, making a mysterious noise, halfway between wind noise and a rattle, which appears to originate in a general direction rather than at a specific point.

In my case, the fix was to spray the rubber seal with a silicone lubricant, so the vibration sound was damped. I expect it will last 'til the silicone dries out, then I'll try renewing it.
