Thump coming from rear

I was driving along today when I started hearing a thumping/clunking noise from the rear. I can especially here it when making turns or going over bumps on the road. The thump can be felt through the car. I'm pretty sure its not the spare tire cause I took everything out of my trunk. I do have a comptech rear sway bar but I don't know if it is the cause of the problem. I searched for other threads and they said that their endlinks broke. But, mine seem fine. Anyone with any idea what is wrong?

Did you replace the suspension?

Dead body? Gotta tie them down. Sometimes my basketball rolls and thumps around in the trunk.

Loose endlink you say? I'll check it out when I have some time. Hopefully, that's the only thing wrong. Oh, and I have a stock suspension, with a comptech rear sway bar.

Take a closer look. The flange of your exhaust is probably hitting the CT sway.

Ah... the infamous noise from the rear. First off, my ride is completely bone-stock. I've reported in various related threads that I have had some kind of clicking/ticking noise from the rear from time to time. I have checked almost everything mentioned and none of them seems to apply in my case.

The only thing I haven't checked for is loose endlinks - I have checked for broken endlinks though and they are clearly not broken.

Anyway, over the past 2+ weeks, I have noticed that I haven't heard the noise once. It seems to have just disappeared. My car is only almost 3.5 months old, I am thinking if it's just the suspension components settling in, thus the noise going away on its own?? Could that be the case guys?

If that's the case, is there any way to fix it?

My car was stock and I had a metal clicking/ticking noise that progressed into a full out creak when I increased my tyre pressure. Dealer found the creaking spot on the rear parcel shelf and fixed it up.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Where and what is the rear parcel shelf? Is it underneath the car as well just like the end-links?

About tyre pressure, how high did you increase it to? I am a bit of an avid tyre pressure watcher myself and I have been running ~34psi (measured while cold) all around.

So far the noise that has disappeared on its own is still GONE (I don't notice it's related to my tyre pressure...) So it's so far so good, but this way I'll never know what caused the noise was

It's part of the body, where the rear speakers are mounted to. If you open up the boot, you'll see the yellow pulltags to release the folding rear seats? That's the parcel shelf. My creak was coming from the left side, just inside lining in the area where the left boot arm goes in.
I was using 32psi (cold) when I had the ticking and clicking, and when I increased it to 36psi, it became a creak.

With mine, I can hear that it is coming from inside the cabin somewhere (very sharp and clear click). Is it the same for your clicking? Or do you feel/hear that it is from the outside?

Same here, but i lowerd my car tho. The noise only happen when i go over bumps on the right rear. Maybe i did not position the spring right in place with the rubber? I have to find time to fix this, its killing me!

OK, I'll do a visual check on that parcel shelf thing. As of now, that noise is STILL GONE on mine though... When it was around, it sounded more like it was from the inside the trunk somewhere... hmm.... so the plot thickens...

And yeah, like JTso said, how did the dealer fix it???

I located another rattle in the trunk. Check the lift-over (the plastic bit against the back of the trunk, closest to the bumper that covers the latch and back wall of the trunk) and you'll see that it rattles up against the bare metal of the inside of the trunk. Anyone know what I mean?

I'm going to put some foam tape in there to see if it eliminates my rattle.

I'll take a look at mine and see if I can locate what to mean... maybe you can post a pic of that to help the visual too

very informative thread.

as of late, i too have been experiencing this "trunk rattle."

i'm hoping it is only the lift-over, and not suspension-related...

i'm gonna have to check the end-links. it doesn't sound like it's coming from the spare tire lift-over.

i have no idea what i'm looking for. what does an end-link look like?

the tray over the spare tire is not secured to the tire..I think it may bounce over bumps and makes a somewhat deep thumping noise...
