Throttle cable adjustment?

Is there a way to adjust the throttle cable? Seems the pedal has developed a bit of play before engaging, also described here:

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...ght=pedal+play

Essentially, you can depress the pedal about 3/4 of an inch before the slop is taken up and it "pulls" on the cable to "open" the throttle (at least virtually).

Took it to the dealer and didnt feel this in a TL or TSX they had in the showroom and of course, the service department had a tech look at it and he gave me the "its normal" brushoff (effing HATE that).

I popped the hood and can see where the cable runs from the firewall into the sensor for the DBW system. There are threads on where it goes into the sensor, so there has to be an adjustment, right?

Or...was the dealer correct and this little bit of play indeed "normal"?

There IS a cable. But instead of going to the throttle body, it goes to a sensor.

I don't think that's normal. My '04 doesn't feel like that at all. The throttle is very responsive as soon as I move the pedal the slightest bit.

Look for a threaded tube with some sort locking nut on it. It'd probably be on the end of the cable either at the sensor or at the pedal. That's generally the way those things are adjusted.

I'd say there is a little slack (I mean almost unnoticeable amount) in the cable to sensor. If you are able to move 3/4 the way, you've got an issue.

I have a slight slack also. Not sure if it's 3/4"...maybe 1/4"-1/2"?

throttle cable adjustment

i just replaced my APP sensor (the DBW sensor youre talking about) and there is a way to adjust the slack. if you take the cover off you will see that the sensor looks exactly like a throttle position sensor and you can adjust the slack the same way

Free play spec is 15-18mm and as mentioned above, is adjusted at the APP sensor on the right side of the firewall in the engine compartment.

So went to another dealer today and got the usual "there is no throttle cable" line from the service rep.

WRONG (again).

There IS a cable, but it just doesnt go to the throttle body, it goes to a sensor.

While waiting for them to tell me "its normal", I poked in a few cars in the showroom. TWO TSXs, two TLS, and RDX and an RL, which, by the way, is a SICK car. You can tell the difference in quality of interior components right away, especially the leather just be putting your hands on it. I digress.

ALL the cars, except for the TSXes did NOT have ANY slack in the cable/pedal. The two TSXes DID. However it was less than what I have. So....Im gonna poke under the hood this weekend and remove a bit of the slack to mirror more of what I felt in those two TSXes.

So like I said above, can anyone provide any guidance on doing this? How to remove the slack, how to measure what the proper amount is, etc?

Thanks,

Rich
