Things that bother me.. can I fix this?

So I recently switched from a VW GTI to an 06+ CGP w/ navi... WoOt!

Somethings that I miss from my GTI.

- The doors automatically lock at 10mph.
- When you pull the door handle to get out it automatically unlocks the door. I was locked in my car for like a minute fighting the lock/unlock.
- The door pin when unlocked/locked is in the way of my arm.
- No blue side mirrors.

Is there anything I can do to help this. Maybe some aftermarket doorpins. What about the electrical. Is there a "vagcom" type system that you can tap into the system and force certain things?

Not to be a total downer.. there are some things I love about the car..
at 50 total miles the car hasn't broken down yet.. (my "vdub" was towed 3 times in 60,000 miles)
The Navi is 100000x better then VW's
The TSX 4cylinder actually seems very comparable to my vr6.

Vdubbbbbb!

I am unsure as to if you can alter the locking mechanism with the doors, as that sounds very technical...But I'm sure you can buy lower profile door pins and I know someone on here has something like "Blueberry Yum Yum" film that they put on their mirrors to give it a blue tint.

You can buy blue tint and tint the side mirrors yourself. I did mine. Sorry no pics, I'm at work right now.

There is a mod to cut the lock pins down so that when they are in the lock position, the top is flush with the window sill.

I think its around here somewhere.

For the door lock knob you could do this:

http://www.honda-acura.net/forums/sh...threadid=77711

Its a very cheap and simple fix.

For the autolocking doors you could use this:

http://www.kptechnologies.com/

Look up their programmable speed switch module.

I don't think that changing the doors to open when you pull the handle is a simple job. It probably could be done but probably wouldn't be worth the trouble.

I think the '06's are more difficult to replace. Mine don't seem to unscrew. I believe I've read on this forum other people having the same problems with the 06's, but not the 04+05.

hmm i know my vw ones were difficult to get out.. it was more of an up motion then twist...

I have also been reading that if you have the car locked.. you might not be able to get out if the electric goes out. I might just swap my side..

I lowered my door lock knobs on my 2006. Just unscrew. It may be easier to remove the plastic gromet around the knob first.

I never understood why the TSX *didn't* have the auto lock feature when you started driving, or the auto open feature when the driver pulled on the interior latch --- my parents' 1996 HONDA Accord EXL had them!!?!

i had a jetta too and i agree with you

some other things that piss me off is the tsx has 1 (one touch) window button
and a slow ass sunroof switch (my 95 bmw has all 4 auto down and the fronts auto up)

germans do a lot of things better

personally I aboslutely hate those things, my wife's MINI does it and I wish I could turn it off. It must be a European thing, no Japanese car I've ever been does those things. older American cars do the auto-lock when rolling and auto-unlock when engine is turned off.

I'm actually glad the doors don't unlock when you pull the handle.
Over the summer, my wife had to take our daughter to work before 7am in the morning. The street they were driving on is a wide 6 lane blvd with speeds of +50mph. As usual, my wife/daughter was fighting about typical teenage/parent stuff and the argument really got heated. Our daughter got so mad (over something that was 100% my daughter’s fault and she wasn’t taking responsibility for), she tried to open the door and jump out of the car at 55 mph!! The time delay of pulling the door handle, trying to find the door unlock, unlocking the door and then pulling the door handle gave my wife enough time to stop the car in the middle of road before she jumped out. Luck for us, there was no cars behind us or in the other lanes when she jumped out. Now my daughter has to leave by 5:30am in the morning to catch the bus to work.

about the door knob being in your way of your arm. I saw in a TL thread a guy who took the door knob out, cut it accordingly so that that when the door was locked, the knock would be situated at the surface or a bit lower than that door panel. Might wanna check that out. I used to have a passat, gottaaaa let the VW go

I tried to unscrew it.. but it wouldn't budge. I am not going to force it.

I think i decided just to change the drivers side. That way if the power goes out, I can always crawl out the passenger side.

Good call. Hit us up with an update on what you used and how you got the knob off when you're done.

PS. If the power goes out, you could always crawl out your trunk.

FYI,

I had a GTI as well and swapped the lock knobs on it. I couldn't unscrew it by hand, but got some pliers and wrapped tape around it so it did't mess up the lock and they came off with some force...worst comes to worst, you ruin your lock and get a new one put it...on a scale of 1-10 for mods, 1 being easiest and 10 being hard like engine swap, this is a -2.

I agree. I have always hated auto locking/unlocking doors.

Also, as a passenger I might get figity and start playing with the door handle. I don't want the door opening when I do so, I mean what's the point of locking the doors while the car is moving if you can just open the doors anyway?

I think my girlfriends new Jetta.. if you pull the handle, it unlocks. When you pull it again it opens.

I like either. Especially if in an accident and trying to get the hell out of the car.
