Temp gauge displays wrong tempture.

temp gauge was displaying 57 when it is 90 or higher on the outside. then when i gased the car hard(to the Vtec kick in) the temperture was displayig 61 and stayed like that for the rest of the trip even thought it was hot outside.
i washed my car today and that's all i did. it seems like the car is displaying a totally wrong temperture. is there any way to fix this?

There is a way to adjust the temperature setting by +/- 5 degrees. However, what you describe is considerably outside those bounds. I think you need to have the dealer take a look at it.

Are you checking it right when you get into the car? It usually takes a little while for the temp to balance out.

Did your sensor start displaying the proper temperature yet? I have had this same phenomenon occur after a wash.

My temperature readings are consistantly hotter than the actual temperature. I live in las vegas, but I know it dosnt quite make 122 degrees here in the summertime.

How do you adjust this setting? Mine has almost always displayed at least 4 to 5 degrees hotter than it actually is, since day one. I'd like to fix it, but I've never made a big deal about it to the dealer.

I remember reading in the manual that it can be done but don't remember the specific buttons or sequence. I have an 04.

I think it's - Press and hold the trip reset pin. After the trip mileage is to zero, keep holding down. That will make the temp # fluctuate +/-

As I recall from reading the owners manual, it's behind front bumper.

temp guage is right behind the front bumper. the gauge will not show the right temp right away. you have to drive a certain amount of time. also your gauge may never show the exact temp, your radiator alos puts heat onto the temp and other factors effect the temop gauge, the car will compensate as much as it can for these factors, to get the closest to the actual temp.

Outside temperature way off

My outside temperature is completely messed up. Sometimes it shows -22 degrees (its about 60-70 outside), other times it shows '---'. When I disconnect the temperature sensor (under the front bumper), nothing changes. So I assume that I have somekind of problem with my wiring (short or open circuit).

Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the outside temperature circuit?
Or could someone PLEASE scan that page from the service manual?

Thanks a bunch!!!!!!!

You're probably a do-it-yourselfer but this sounds like a problem the dealer should be fixing under warranty.

I agree. You should not be messing with it, if it is under warranty. Mine reads very accurate, after I did -1 degree adjustment

You are correct. I did that to mine, last night. It takes a while for the #'s to start cycling on the thermometer, but it does eventually start cycling (0F, 1F, 2F, 3F, -3F, -2F, -1F). Thanks for the tip!

My car is no longer under warranty. I could probably fix it myself with a multimeter and some wiring diagrams for the outside temperature sensor.

Does anyone have these at hand?

Thanks!
