Stuck in 4th gear

This morning I was driving the TSX on the expressway. I noticed that when I set the cruise control and the car was driving 70-75mph, it sounded odd. Then, I switched the car to the sportshift and it was on 4th gear. So, I wanted to switch it up to 5th gear, but it refused. I was wondering why it was doing this.

After my meeting, I got back in my car for lunch and wanted to drive around and go on the highway again. This time the car was able to go to 5th gear and the car sounded fine.

Have any of you guys experienced this before and why didn't it want to go to 5th gear?

My car only has 56,685 miles on it too.

I've had this happen to me on a road trip to atlanta. I had to turn the car off and turn it back on to shift properly. It hasn't happened after that. I have about 115K miles on the car now... I never checked into it after that either...

Could be you are low on tranny fluid?

I'm going to drive my car on my way home and see again if I got this problem. I wish that my 60,000 miles service can be done sooner. I guess I'll need to drive the TSX more.

Well, just got home and the car is fine, going through the 1-5th gear smoothly.

hmm well, i did let it sit for a minute or so on the driveway because i had to type in directions in the navi to find this place for the meeting. so, i guess i did have it warmed up. i only noticed that something was wrong when i got the car up to 70 mph and i had put the cruise control on. the rpms normally go down to 2500 rpms around 70 and this time it was at 3500 rpms and the sound coming from the engine sounded odd.

Not sure about an auto tsx, but from experience with prior auto cars, the tranny would hold 4th gear until the engine is warmed up, then it would change to 5th.

maybe it has something to do with the cruise control and sportshift engaged?

it did it again tonight. the car only went up to 4th gear. i didn't have cruise on and the engine yes it was cold because i left it in the train station parking lot all day, but the engine did warm up and it was still left in 4th gear. when i got home, i turned off the engine and started her up again and drove her around. i was able to see 5th gear again with sportshift.

weird.

my 04 TSX has 75,470 miles on it now.
