Try to show this to your dealer and see how lucky you get:

Good luck!

I got my wife to write up an email ..(she's a business analyst for the gov.and knows how to get her point across) to honda canada..and the dealership that the car was bought from..

To Whom It May Concern:

In March 2006, I purchased a 2004 Acura TSX (previously owned) from Dieppe Auto (NB). Over the last several months, I have noticed that the stereo/heater display lighting has been intermittently dark and un-readable. Yesterday, the display lighting completely darkened and is no longer readable at any point in time.

Upon investigation (via the internet), I learned that this problem has happened to many other people. While researching possible repairs, I became aware of an Acura Service Bulletin that was issued on this topic.

Bulletin 04-021 states the symptom as the audio display and controls (knobs, buttons, bars) of the audio-HVAC display module as dim or dark. The probable cause is noted as a faulty audio unit. The corrective action notes that there is an affected VIN range that can determine if the stereo experiencing the problem is a known VIN with the problem.

The bulletin also includes the following excerpt:

Out of warranty:

Any repair performed after warranty expiration may be eligible for goodwill consideration by the District Parts and Service Manager or your Zone Office. You must request consideration, and get a decision, before starting work.

Unfortunately, my Acura has 110,000 km and is no longer under warranty. Therefore, the excerpt noted above may apply.

To give you a bit of history, I am a loyal Honda/Acura owner. Although I am only 36 years old, my wife and I have owned 3 Acuras and 9 Hondas since 1994. Of these 12 Honda/Acura purchases, 6 were purchased brand new. The remaining 6 purchased were only 2-3 years old. By far, the purchase of my TSX has been my most enjoyable purchase. I have aspired to own this type of car since they released the Euro-Accord in 2002. In 2004, I realized my aspiration may become reality when the TSX was released in 2004.

It is with this in mind, that I ask you to consider performing a repair to my stereo as a sign of goodwill.

The Acura name is associated with dependability and reliability. As Acura is aware and has acknowledged that there are vehicles in existence (recognizable by VIN) that have faulty stereo equipment, I sincerely believe that it is the company’s duty to repair this problem free of charge. This belief is compounded by the design of the stereo/heater unit. By combining the stereo and heater display Acura has limited an owner’s options when something goes wrong (as an aftermarket system cannot easily be purchased).

we have so far gotten a response from the dealership who have forwarded the email to the District Service manager.. and have yet to hear from Honda Canada

I'd like to thank this site.. (as I am just new to it.. ).. very full of info.. I think I'll stay awhile on this one.. lol.. pics will soon follow on my car..

The same issue happened to me, out of warranty (@ 56k miles). I took the TSB to the service department at the dealer, and they replaced the radio unit totally free of charge out of goodwill. If anyone with this problem is in the Pittsburgh area, I'd recommend taking your TSX to Baierl Acura. They took care of mine!

wow. congrats. I think it will take them more than 1/2 hour to actually replace the unit, so you also got out good on the labor charge.

Call acura customer service directly or go to another dealer. When did this problem happen for you?
