Slow crank + issues

I have a 06 TSX with Navi, and I'm running into a few issues lately. The start up is very slow, and it's taking very long cranks to get the car started. Along with that, the lights on the dash flicker whenever it's cranking the engine, and it's starting to worry me.

Also, I have completely lost bluetooth capabilities. The button's are nonfunctional, and don't serve any purpose anymore.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

R U running the OEM battery? That would be the 1st thing I'd check out.

Umm, you are still under warranty, why don't you take it in and get it checked out?

slow startup sounds like the battery to me. as for the bluetooth, i would check your fuses and see if one is blown.

I will be taking it into service on Friday, just wanted a bit of input.
I stated that it would be the battery, but my parents just fail to see my perspective on this situation.

As for the bluetooth, I'll just get the techs to look at it.
Hopefully no fuses are blown. =T

Within a week of getting my 06 back from spending 9 weeks in the body shop waiting for parts to repair extensive hail damage, I had the same rapid flickering of dash lights combined with not being able to start the car under battery power - I needed a boost. Maybe sitting around the shop not being used did something to the battery, but twice it wouldn't hold a charge for more than a day; my multimeter says the alternator is charging (14.4v). The car's 2 1/2 years old with 38,000 miles.

My experience with Honda is that they charge you to tell you what you already really know (for example, it might be, say, $150 if you have them check to see if the battery is OK and then have them replace it vs $100 if you go in and tell them to replace the battery). I took the advise of many people here, who said the OEM battery is a small and weak one and just replaced it, two days ago.

I went to Costco and, since they didn't have any of the expensive Optima Red Tops in stock, I took a size/layout group 51R Kirkland unit (part 314539 - wet cell type) instead, for just $70Cdn plus tax - that's probably what Acura would charge me for the diagnostics to tell me that the battery was bad. Swap time was about 10 minutes with a 10mm wrench (or pliers). The two units are exactly the same size; the new unit puts out 500cca, vs the stock 410cca - can't complain about that!

If you have the OEM battery, you can check the top of it to see if the battery is still good. However, I do believe it's partially the battery. When you say lights on the dash flickering, does that mean all the lights or certain lights? The bluetooth is most definitely a separate issue.

I highly recommend the Optima RedTop 35 if you do decide to seek a new battery.

Hey Chris, For the bluetooth issue, I would take it in to the dealership, since its still under warranty. Could be just a blown fuse.

Plus if the battery is still good, they might be able to find something else wrong with it thats causing a slow crank.

In addition, some dealers have service coupons on their web sites on occasion (mine does). Right now mine has a coupon for a free battery check.....you might want to look at their web site for a coupon before you take the car in.

BTW, the replacement battery has a few more CCA than the OEM one. I think jlukja replaced his battery with this one. Might want to ask him how it's working out and if he sees any difference.
