Question Seat Heaters literally burning me.

I have a feeling I am going to need to call Acura about this one....

I'm having a problem with my heated seats that they are actually burning me (and my husband when he drives it too). I'm very short 4'10", and when I push the gas I put a lot of pressure on the part of the seat that comes in contact with my leg, as a result, I think there is a lot of wear there and the leather is very wrinkled.

Now whenver I put the seat heater on, before I start to feel a nice warm seat I literally almost get 3rd degree burns on my leg. I've tried to shift around the leather and crunch it in a different way, but it doesn't seem to help.

Does anyone have any clue on any way to fix this, or do you think this will be an expensive fix at the dealer?

Is this on low or high? Mine gets a bit too warm for comfort after a while of being on high. When it's cold I'm usually wearing two pairs of pants (because I'm skinny and I freeze) so my perspective is probably a little different from yours.

As per p. 137, the HI setting heats the seat up really quick, then cycles off until the seat "cools." Not sure what temperature it detects to kick on again. I only use it to heat up the seat quickly. LO is heating continuously, and I usually have to turn mine off LO after a while.

FWIW, you might try adjusting the seat as per p. 138, tipping it a bit forward so that your thigh isn't pressing so hard against the bolster. IMHO, the forward bolster should support your leg, but not keep it elevated, forcing you to press down against it to operate the pedals. That doesn't sound ergonomically efficient.

Off-topic.... How I adjust my seat: set my heel against the base of the pedal, and adjust the chair forward until my legs are bent naturally, but not raising my knee. Then I adjust the seat height/angle so that my thigh is gently supported, but without lifting my heel from the pedal, or bending my knee. Then I adjust the seatback so that my shoulders are supported (just enough contact, not pushed forward). From there I adjust the steering column to rest in my hands with my arms in a natural curl.

Hope that helps....

the heating wires are close to the surface so maybe that is the problem for you. I rarely use the heat but while I was getting the seat covering replaced they informed me that the wires were coming apart. They fixed them

On our 2008 TSX the high setting seems to work however the low setting takes some time before you feel it working.

Interesting that yours overheats to the point where it is uncomfortable.

I wish I had this issue on my 2004. It literally takes 5 mins before I even feel the hi setting and just forget about the low setting.

Yeah...same here. I'm usually arriving at my destination before my seats heat up. Even then...they're not all that hot.

Are you saying the wait is there when the car is warmed up or warming up?

Mine takes a while ... not that I mind, the HI setting gets it scorching hot if left on for 10 minutes.

Don't think the temperature of the engine means anything to the electric seat heaters. A climate control heater core is typically a heat exchanger using coolant circulating through the engine and radiator. I wouldn't expect to find something like that in a car seat.

Even No. California doesn't get cold anymore. When there were big storms there (1995 IIRC), people were getting their Range Rovers and Grand Cherokees dirty shopping for designer sand bags and such. My 10 year old battle-scarred Jeep YJ .
