Scratching problem?

Scratching problem?
Okay, so this is me going crazy, but-
I've begun to notice a scratching sound coming from the lower passenger-side whenever I go above 5000 rpms. Quiet and sporatic at first, once I hit the vtec point at 6000, the noise becomes easily audible and consistent.. It sounds like scratching (like the noise made when an animal scratches a sofa mixed with radio static) in the area of the glove compartment. It happens to me in any gear, so long as my revs are over 5000, and after each shift the sound dissapears until I rev it up to that point once again.
Of course, I have a 6MT.
I've tried it with the radio quiet and then completely off, and with the temperature on and off. In all cases, the sound remains exactly the same.
What could be wrong? Does anyone else experience anything like this?

No one can help me out here? Can someone with a 6MT just go on the road and drive at 6000 rmps for a bit with the radio off and listen for a noise coming from the front dash... It comes instantaneously...
Thanks.

I don't have it. Have you tried removing everything from the glove box just to rule out that it isn't some kind of resonation causing something in it to rattle?
I need to pop open my hood agian and take a look but I believe all the drive belts/chain is over in that area. Might want to rev it up with the hood open and listen for it.

front end on blocks and vsa off? I'd definitely try it without...standing outside with the hood open might let you detect some kidn of resonance that you don't notice inside the car utnil you hit those higher rpms. Since vtec switch over is 6k anything at 5k should also be there at lower rpms..maybe jsut quieter.

I tried reving past 6000 on my trip home last night and did not hear anything unusual or out of the ordinary. Do you by chance have a body kit? If so, check your connectors they might be loose.

Nope. I've got stock 6mt to the bone. I've only started to hear this noise since I took the car in for service last week. Im not happy about this at all.
Thanks for your help. Im taking the car in for service now. I'll tell you whats up.

So the noise of the fuel injectors is a normal thing? I think id like to take out a 6mt TSX anyways to be sure. Why would they suddenly make that noise starting only at 5000 rpms?
Ill tell you what Acura tells me.
And thanks moda_way; I wont rev my engine without moving ever again.

It isn't an issue and BTW, NEVER REV YOUR ENGINE WHILE SITTING IN NEUTRAL. It is so bad to rev an engine without the weight of the drivetrain attached to it. You're basically spining the engine unlaiden with weight so it is spinning more free and loose.

i dont have the scratching sound but i hear a barely audible high-pitched sound coming from behind the dash/engine bay...it's only audible when i presss on the accelerator so i'm assuming it's the fuel injectors like moda described

I noticed that the sound only occurs when its raining outside. Perhaps at high revs the water is shot out of the engine in an odd direction? I dont know how water is delt with in the rain... Im just guessing.
Thanks for everyone's help though.

Further clarification, I typically only that noise when the car is cold (meaning has sat for a while and not been run). After the car reaches operating temp, the noise is less audible, but still there.
