replacing front brakes

Our 04 auto has been collecting more brake dust on the front passenger side for a while now.

Every fall and spring i do my own inspection and flushed the dirty ass brake fluid from the PO. I noticed that the front passenger pads were worn a bit more than the left. These were brand new pads also.

I bled the brakes and also had a bleeder valve on the driver rear caliper that was froze.

So, i think the caliper on the front passenger needs to be replaced.

I ordered both front rotors, wagner pads and right front caliper for $140 shipped from advance auto.

I'll reuse the front bleeder valve from the old caliper to replace the driver rear.

Then i get to bleed the system again.

I replaced the front pads, rotors and passenger front caliper. Those screws that hold the rotor on are a pain in the ass, but i didn't have too many issues with it.

I bought a container of caliper pin lubricant instead of the little packets they sell. There is a fine line when using this stuff too. I reused the bleeder valve from the old caliper before i turned it in for the driver rear caliper. That one was bad.

So now i, err the wife will have to break them in.

I love bedding in new brakes! It gives me an excuse to go find a rural road to drive sporty on.

meh, the wife just e-mailed me saying there's a slight thud when slowing down and stopping.

I guess i'll find out tonight what it is.

Everything looked fine. When i replaced the front brakes, i didn't replace the screws on the driver side rotor. For some reason i didn't get the screw holes to line up. I have no idea why but i must have had a real off day.

I removed the rotor and lined it up correctly and put in two screws. We'll see how it is tomorrow.

Those screws are only there to hold the rotor in place when the wheels are off. Once the wheels are mounted to the car, they hold the rotors in place. I'm not sure what the "thud" was, probably just some road debris, but it surely wasn't the lack of rotor screws.

I didn't think so either, but the noise has stopped according to the mrs.

I know with toyotas, they don't have the two screws, but i think their caliper "floats" a little more.

Everything was tight and looked normal. The fluid level was fine and nothing looked out of whack. The lugs were tight on all 4 tires.

I should have checked in the trunk, maybe she had something bouncing around

I just replaced my pads this afternoon and decided that I would take off those screws for good. They cause nothing but problems down the road. And Fred on DA mentioned that his car's vibration went down when he removed them and turned his rotors in his Accord.

While my new pads work ok I'm wondering did Honda change them? I noticed that this set has a 45 degree angle going to the sides and the other ones I just took off, while they were low didn't have them. They both were Nissin but I think the part stamps were different. It could be in my head but their grip doesn't feel as good as the old set. It still brakes well but something feels off (might be in my head).
