Replace clutch DIY?

04 w/ 75k miles, throwout bearing is shot, and im waiting for the clutch to die before i tackle the problem. Ive done this job before on a few VWs but its such a PITA i called up the dealer to get a quote...2200. Seems like i might be doing this myself again as I dont have a spare 2k laying around.

Anyone else dropped the trans on their TSX? Are there any major issues you ran into? Dealer said you HAVE to replace the flywheel...im used to just resurfacing them if theres material....thoughts? Do you have to pick the engine to squeeze out the trans? Ive got the factory manual, but would like some hands on info as well.

Get the dealer to justify that. I've never heard of such a thing; just look to see how glazed the friction surface is and you might be able to get away with a fresh disc and pressure plate without resurfacing the flywheel.

Your going to have to drop the subframe and power steering rack, my release bearing is pooched too, a new flywheel sounds about right. I tried to get just the clutch but apparently our flywheels are dual mass. So I purchased the exedy stage 1 with a flywheel which is included in the kit. The dealer is charging so much cause its a pain in the butt to do I've done two clutches on a 04 and 06 accord...yuk!

Not entirely correct. Been proven by a member on here and my Acura mechanic after work hours... you can rotate the case and not drop the subframe. There was just enough room to do it he said and the only reason he attempted it was b/c an NSX on the rack next to my TSX was pissing him off. Point being, I have not done it myself YET, but I know first hand it can be done.

if he didn't drop the subframe, doesn't it mean he would have to do it from the bottom?
