Removing paint
Removing paint
Hey guys. So long story short, my mom took my car out and she some how ended up scraping something that left some pretty deep scratches. There are a lot of white scrapes on it as well, but that looks like its paint residue and can be removed. I wiped a little bit of it off with a towel and was able to scratch out a some more white. Anyhow, are there any products that will help remove that paint without stripping the car's paint? Thanks guys.

meguires scratch x like everyone else mentioned. It usually does a good job. You will probably need to follow up with a professional detail though. If those are scratches you will need to take it to a body shop.

Not sure why some people still recommend Meguiar's Scratch-X??
It doesn't even do a decent job on Swirls.
Looking at that, you need to go to body shop. Looks like you've went beyond the clear coat and into the paint.

it looks like the scratches on the 1/4 panel will come off easily, but the ones in the bumper still are deep and should get repainted. this being said, you could easily get out the paint part of the scratches if you have a good buffer. if scratch-x doesn't work, go to a place where you can get REAL detail products, and get the Meguiar's medium scratch remover. you could go over it very lightly with some thinner, but that would still require a little buffing.. just not as much. There are many more details to buffing it.. but the quick version is to just use a foam pad and dont hold it on the edges or you will burn through the clearcoat. One person suggested claybar, and that may work too.. it might just take a little more elbow grease. This being said, I was a professional detailer and am now a painter, if that adds any credibility to my statements.

BTW, another vote for ScratchX.
