Rear Licence Plate Falls Off
Rear Licence Plate Falls Off
Whats up guys
I have an weird problem with our 2006 TSX. I noticed while swapping over from dealer plates that the rear license plate screws were not very snug. They would tighten to a point and then get loose again. Eventually the right side let go and the left side was soon to follow. I resorted to placing the plate on the speaker deck but I got pulled over for it on Saturday night. So much for that
Needless to say, I'm forced to finally deal with it. It appears that there are plastic grommets in the welded trunk mounts/spacers. Mine show extensive wear and I was wondering if they are replaceable. I found the metal assembly but I'm not sure if it includes the plastic pieces.
Look at 008, part number 74827-S0X-000
Pictures of my findings:

The O.K. one

The one that failed

try applying a little locktite(blue) to the screw or you may need to re-tap that hole, could be stripped... that part number you found may apply to the rectangular foam pieces... really hard to tell from the diagram, so try calling the dealer...
The screws that came with it were smaller than the hole; didn't look like they ever threaded in. Looks like the plastic part was supposed to hold it alone?
Thanks for the suggestions, I was thinking to just drop by an Acura dealer on the way home from school.

What you see in the diagram are the 2 foam pieces. The holes where the screws go into are nuts welded onto the trunk. If the screws that came with them were smaller then it wont work. Look closely at the holes and see if they look stripped. If they are not stripped you can run to Pep Boys/Autozone and they sell the correct size screw in the license plate frame section of the store. It's a common thread size for the license plate but I forgot what the thread sizing is.
