Rattling Glove Box Latch

Has anyone had a metal to metal tapping/rattling sound coming from their glove box latch? What did you do to fix it?

This is the first time I've seen this show up here (that doesn't mean it hasn't). Are you sure it's the latch? Assuming it is, the door must be moving, so using something to take up the extra space might tighten it up and quiet it down.

At certain temperatures (50-60) I have noticed a creaking/rattling sound from the glovebox - at other temperatures it is silent. Opening the glove box and leaving it open ends the noise. I have placed felt pads on the inner edges of the glove box to make it close more securely - it did not eliminate the noise. My current "theory" is that it is inside the glove box door - between the front outer panel and inner box. I have not (yet) taken it apart to investigate. (This noise was not there for the first three or four years of ownership - I have seen posts explaining that dealers have replaced the door under warranty - the noise seems to appear after the warranty is over).

This sounds like the same thing - it is probably time to take the door apart...

Could be that. I had a jingling sound coming from my glovebox when I was under warranty. I took it to the dealership and they actually had to end up replacing the entire glovebox because the noise was happening from INSIDE the glovebox housing itself. Some piece of plastic or who knows what must have been loose under the lining. It wasn't the latch or anything, because that would be the only part they ended up replacing. I'm just offering up this particular experience as an example of how hard it is to track down the myriad of rattles/creaks our cars tend to make. If taking the box apart doesn't fix it, you may try replacing the latch or just the box down the road.

This is a well documented problem. Search the old archives. I had this same problem on my 04 TSX. The fix is adding some padding somewhere under the dash near a bracket behind the glovebox to fix the rattle. I also had the glove box replaced, but it did not solve the problem.

I believe this is the thread to fix the noise you are having. I found it a few months back because my car had the same problem. Haven't tried it yet, though.
