Popping noise from front driver's side suspension

I tried searching but couldn't find any posts on this topic specifically. I hope I didn't miss anything as I am just a noob. My 06 has about 37k miles on it and it is bone stock. The car has been making a popping noise from the front driver's side suspension whenever I go over a speed bump. I brought the car in to the dealer and the tech said the strut bar was loose and he tightened and the problem went away. 6 months later, the problem is back. Tightening the strut bar will probably make noise go away for now. Has anyone else had this problem? If this problem is a continuing problem where I will need to bring it in every once in a while to tighten, does anyone have an idea of a fix to resolve this permanantly? Thanks.

Have you checked if the nuts on top of the strut tower are tight?

Sorry, I am not very good with cars. Is that what I should ask the tech to check?

There have been a few people with the same problem including myself. I thought mine had something to do with my coilovers but I guess it happens to stock suspensions too. Mine pops when I slowly turn right. Ive asked my dealership when it was in for service but they said they couldn't do anything because of the aftermarket suspension.

2 things: are you sure he said strut bar and not sway bar?, and if it is the strut bar, I'm quite sure Honda doesn't use lock washers, so adding those is one option; another would be to apply loc-tite to the fasteners (one at a time for either option). Be sure to use a torque wrench to tighten the fasteners. I believe the strut nuts are 33 lb fts (396 inch lbs); I'm not sure about the firewall fasteners.

Thanks for the responses guys. Again, I am not very good with cars. According to the statement they gave me when I brought it in last time, it says they tightened the strut bar. So there is a strut bar right? It isn't just a mistake on the part of the dealer?

Yes, there is a front strut bar. It connects the two strut towers (actually attaches to the shock absorber fasteners on the sides) and has a couple of pieces that extend out the the firewall. Open the hood and above what would be about the center of the wheel you'll see some bolts sticking through with nuts on them. You'll also see what looks like a piece of about 1" pipe running from side to side slightly above and behind the engine. It connects to the bolts on each side and has a couple of pieces extending to the firewall. Rudimentary explanation, but if you look under the hood, you should be able to see what I'm talking about.

Thanks Simba, I just checked it out, and the problem was not the strut bar. That seems to be tight. I'm just wondering if the tech said that he tightened the strut bar last time and it fixed the problem, what it could possible be this time. It is the same exact sound as last time.

I'm not too familiar with any of the noise complaints in front. They seem to be more common coming from the rear suspension. Of course it's much less complicated back there, so it's a little easier to diagnose. I mentioned the sway bar earlier because that seems to be a source of some complaints with the rear suspension. The end links connect the rear sway bar to the wheel hubs; one on each side. It appears that over time the studs that connect to the sway bar and the hub can loosen up a little, and under some circumstances, get noisy (I actually had this problem so I know it can happen)(self-inflicted by the way). The front end links don't seem to generate the noise complaints that the rear ones do though (here anyway). This could be something that's causing your problem.

Sorry to bring back this old thread guys. Since the last time of the last post, which was about a year ago, I thought my problem was resolved. The techs replaced the driver's side strut tower, which they said caused the problem, and they used loctite on the bolts, and I never had this problem again. Then all of a sudden, the popping sound came up again yesterday. From what I can see, this seems to be only a problem on my car and noone else has really had this probem. Has anyone else had this problem? And does anyone have any thoughts on this? Thanks

Your front chassis is flexing and hence you get a popping noise. I used to get a popping noise from the rear because my parcel shelf was flexing. Filled the suspect area that was doing the popping with grease and no more noise. It has been 4 years.

i have a similiar problem, only the noise seems to be a "knocking" or "clunking" noise after going over a bump. It seems to be only in the front drivers side.

Yes, the noise comes from the front driver's side. I am not sure if it happens all the time, but it is most evident when I drive over a speed bump. From what I have read in other forums, it happens to some civic SI owners as well. It seemed like they fixed the problem when they replaced the strut tower, however, it didn't even last for a year. I don't think it is really that much of an issue, but it is really annoying to pretty much be expecting to hear a sound whenever I drive over a bump.

I just found this thread on a civic site (http://www.8thcivic.com/forums/mecha...olved-tsb.html). From what I read, these guys are having the exact problem as me. I am a little surprised not many TSX's are having the same problem. THere is even a TSB for it, although I don't know if it will do any good since it is a Honda TSB.

Apparently it is a bump stop problem. Wouldn't the bump stop have been replaced when a new strut tower is put in or no?

I had that popping sound on front right and rear right on braking, accelerating, and backing into a turn. Got the car with 141,000. Prior owner wouldn't tell me if he had prior problems. Had sway bar links replaced. Sound was gone for about 15 miles. Not as frequent now.
I wondering if it has something to do with axil. If sound initiates from rear motion, next sound will be from front motion. Dealership won't tell me. Some of these things should be recalls.

Last thing with new/used 141,000 Acura TSX. Apparently no upgrade kit for sound system. But is there a way to add blue tooth to existing navigation and sound unit to enable phone and music from smartphone?
