One headlight fails to turn on intermittently
One headlight fails to turn on intermittently
Hi all,
From time to time I notice that my driver side low-beam headlight is off.
I have searched the forum, found plenty of useful info but no consensus on remedies.
Here are my, or rather my TSX's, symptoms:
- the light often fails to turn on when I push unlock button on the remote.
- sometimes I notice it is off while I am driving. Not sure if it was off from the beginning or failed while driving.
- flipping the light switch off/on always fixes the problem
- the light makes a short buzzing sound when it fails to turn on
- it happens in both wet and dry weather, does not seem to be weather related.
How do I fix it, is it ground-related, ballast, igniter? I don't want to replace the whole thing.
thank you!
Sergey

What year is your TSX?
I haven't known the headlights to turn on when unlocking the car with the remote.
Buzzing sound after turning on the headlights is the ignitor. If the ingnitor is not attached correctly or if there's no bulb in place, the buzzing sound can be heard 2x in a row.
Recommend checking the connections to the headlight, especially the ignitor to the HID bulb. Use caution when doing so. You want to disconnect the battery (positive and negative terminals) prior to messing around with the HID's.

Well, I repaired it one week ago. The ballast was okay, the igniter went bad. I dropped the front bumper, removed and opened the headlight, and disconnected the igniter. I looked inside the igniter and noticed that a black plastic melted and fused around the three contacts inside, where it touches the bulb. I ordered a new igniter, replaced and voila - it's working okay. Saved $$$ again, all thanks to this great forum!
The repairs was not hard at all, anyone who knows how to use a socket wrench can do it.
