Oil Change questions..

I need your guys help. I started my tsx this morning and noticed a slight ticking. I shut the car off and checked the oil, I was down under the first 'dot' on the dipstick. I added some oil, but the stuff that was in there is pretty black. I've got about 3500 miles on my car now. Would it be ok to have an oil change done this week with the Mobil-1 5W-30 and then again at 5,000? I was going to switch to the synthetic at my first oil change but, I don't want to leave it in there for only 2k. I want to have my oil changed again at 5K (switching to synthetic) so I can stay on the Acura maintence schedule. Any problems with doing this? After the 5k oil change I'll be doing the changes every 5K.

One more question...Should I have my oil filter changed too? I was reading through the manual and it says that the filter should be changed every other oil change?

The only thing you need to be careful of is flipping between synthetic and regular oil. If you put Mobil 1 in, then make sure you stick with synthetic. You didn't say if you were going to have the dealer do it again at 5k, but they won't be using Mobil 1 for it unless you provide it. I changed mine at 3k miles with Mobil 1 and yes, ALWAYS change the filter. It is something that costs so little yet makes all the difference in the world.

Also, why worry about changing it at 5k again? Just put the synthetic in and drive it.

your engine oil could be low because you checked the oil right after the car was running. you should check you oil about 15 minutes after the engine was runing or when the engine is cold to get a good idea of how much oil is in there. The reason for this is because not all the oil is in the pan where you are taking the measurment. Try testing your oil level again when the car is cold, you should see a different measurement.

heh, also a loss of oil could be attributed to a heavy right foot, espcially if that right foot likes the red line.
