oil change every 3000 miles?

Hey,
So I just had an oil change from the Honda dealer close by(where I bought my o5 acura) and it coated me about $35 bucks which I don't mind. But the thing that struck me is that I have to get it changed when 3000 miles hits. That is too fast for me due to driving to the city averaging 70 miles per day.. Does most of you guys change your oil every 3000 too or 5000? Can I just drive my car for 5000 miles and then get an oil change? I'm curiouss

dude, i believe your TSX comes with an oil life monitor.....
it will TELL you when to change the oil based on engine revs, starts and stops, if you like to hit vtec, etc...

usually, its in the range of 6000 miles before the light tells you to change

$35 at a dealership is a pretty good price. I follow the M.I.D. schedule on the +06 TSX for maint; which, average about 5000 miles between oil changes. I use this same schedule to also do my tire rotations to keep it straight in my head.

I don't think the 04-05 had the updated M.I.D. like the +06 models for scheduled maint?

04-05's have a straight mileage based maintenance minder. It starts flashing on startup after 7500 miles have passed since the last reset. To the OP, does 'driving to the city" mean you're mostly highway cruising? If so, that is pretty low stress for your engine. In that case, the manual says you can change every 10,000.

I drive mixed city/highway and like mrgold, I change every 5000 miles. I run a Blackstone analysis every fifth change and the reports have always been good, meaning I could have conceivably run the oil longer, but 5K is easy to remember.

Yeah I drive freeway mostly. Getting 70 miles a day. And I do have that yellow thing that beeps/flashes on there.. I guess I'll just go back to the dealer when it flashes again. Hopefully in the next 5000 miles, not 3000. . and they rotated my tires which was nice of them

Do you change out or keep the same oil filter between the oil changes?
