o2 sensor (need to stop at the dealer?)
I was looking if i need to stop at my dealer for an 02 sensor?
Today i finally got that darn check engine light diagnosed with a scan tool at the e-shift meet.
Turns out that o2 sensor in the cat is shot and made my dyno run pretty ugly lookin on the graph.
They guy told me i need to replace the o2 sensor and my gas cap becasue it too came up at the same time.

Should be under warranty unless they can prove that your mods are responsible for it failing. I would take it to the dealership first and see if you can get them to replace it under warranty.

Are you sure the gas cap is really needed? Did you try tighten it with a few clicks? Since the gas cap is an emission device, you would think the dealer would replace it under warranty if necessary.

Yea i'm thinking that but the real pain is stopping at the dealer, not sure which dealer on long island people like.
I did tighten it unless my normal habit of tightening it isn't enough.

Sauceman did you get the dealer to replace it? or a local shop i was reading in the warrenty that you could get it at a shop and supposely acura will reimburst you if it is a emissions warrenty.
Then again the 02 sensor was probably broken by the people who installed my headers.
Any ideas on price wise? The ecu did screw up on my dyno if i show any of you the graph.

Okay so now people are telling me the sensor is not used to the new part and suggest resetting the battery, or call comptech and ask about getting a new sensor or chip.
I'm clueless, am i the only one getting this with comptech headers? its confirmed that the air and fuel ratio sensor is throwing the check engine light.

If the O2 sensor was damged during the header installation, then get a replacement sensor. It's not Comptech or the dealer's fault. You might want to verify there isn't any leak first.

So is it the front o2 sensor on your header that's damaged? What is the DTC your getting?
If your o2 sensor is sending false readings to the ECU, you might want to disconnect the harness for the front o2 sensor. This will cause your car to stay in open loop mode at all times.

The dyno had some uneasy climbing and was not increasing smoothly.
I'm getting the sensor replaced, and hopefully they check if there are any leaks.

Yea this is the sensor, it had to be replaced 266 from the dealer.
The shop I went to installed my headers and pretty much screwed up the threads and over torqued in the headers.
He said it was almost impossible to get it off even after heating it up.
No check engine light, talk about trusting that other shop (mineieke).

Tsx536, I don't know exactly how the sensor could have adversely affected the cat, but it seems that was the most probable cause. We even get the warning in the driver's manual to get a CEL serviced ASAP, especially when it concerns smog-control parts, because it can lead to more failures.
My guess is when a sensor fails, the ECU resorts to limp mode and this will accelerate the wear on the cat.
