No back parking Camera!!??

As I picked up my new TSX 2 days ago.. I was under the impression that it had a back parking camera .. well i was pretty dissapointed as it turned out it does not.

What a shame, honda CRV has it as standard option on their Navi system. Is there a way to add that feature on???!!!

The 2006 to 2008 TSX shares the same navi system as the MDX. You can add your own back up camera relatively easy. The TSX doesn't get it because acura wants to entice people to buy their higher end models (after all, the TSX is just an entry-luxury model)

You'll have to buy a camera, and then follow the steps in the DIY section

Probably didn't add it because you can see behind the tsx a lot easier then the mdx

If you'd like to add a camera, its very easy, and can be done for about $15 in parts, and the cost of the backup cam of your choice. I've done it, as have many others. Check out the FAQ / DIY section under Audio & Video.

Thanks folks for your replies..

why's vwong and ching on your case ily? did you get two tsx's for the price of 1? jk

And we all know that there's a bit of misinformation out there. According to our owner's manual, we ought to have a limited-slip differential. How about music link? It was advertised for 06, and then they had to pull it. Now music link is available for 07-08 and excludes 06 (any old reviews will probably advertise it as being 06 compatible).

I remember the one guy who bought a TSX and then wondered why the car wasn't doing the "beeping" thing when he went in reverse (like a radar detector...the beeps tell you if you're going to hit something). Either it was an aftermarket part installed, or the salesman was a ventriliquist (sp?) and did the beeps. So maybe the car he test drove had the back-up camera hack?

Anyway, at least we have the navi system that's compatible with a back-up camera. Too bad we can't buy the factory MDX camera and just plug that in =P

Thank you "SoCaliTrojan "

I will pay a visit tomorrow to my Acura Dealership and inquire about the rearview cam and the compatibility with my Navi system.... Hopefully they will not ask an arm &leg for it...

Will see

theres actually not too many blind spots on the tsx, its not like the 350z or IS, which have about 1sq ft of rear window space view

Your salesman is a poorly informed lying bastard who will say anything to make you happy. He's a salesman, cut him a break!

There are many "universal" radar-style aftermarket parking sensor systems, I wouldn't go about fitting one on your TSX unless you were set on having that kind of parking assist system.

Regarding the backup camera: your salesman, Acura tech, service advisor... I wouldn't expect any of them to know about it. Over in A/V I compared the pinouts from our navi unit to that of the 2006 Honda Odyssey (which comes with an optional backup camera similar to the MDX's), and found them to be the same. Another member "phisigbrotha" put together a DIY which serves as a great reference on how to build the "$10 cable" that liquidg3n3rati0n mentioned. Go check out the FAQ / DIYs there, it really is quite simple.

Wait, where did you buy the adapter?

I was planning on making one as in the DIY, but if I can buy one...

correct me if i am wrong but isn't the mdx dvd unit for the navi is at the front of the vehicle which with the harness or harnesses could cause a issue of not getting the right one or you'd have to by multiple harnesses to connect a factory camera to the navi unit and run up your bill

i have looked at many Acura navi units with cameras and found that the RL's unit(from the front) looks very similar to the mdx and tsx units, is also a trunk located unit that has a backup camera from the factory, so it could be another option if it's confirmed to be the same or similar

i haven't been able to confirm it because the RL's navi unit is completely enclosed in the trunk and would take some removing of some pieces of the trunks fabric covers to get to it

check ebay, but $170 is a lot better than the Acura factory camera prices of over $300

+1. Very easy to do. Once I made the cable, took me all but 15 min to install and most of that time was just making the wires neat. I can get a lot closer to cars behind me(When parking) without touching.

What the hell ever happened to turning your head and LOOKING behind you, instead of relying on technology to drive for you?

and i'm guessing you don't use your cruise control either

a backup camera does nothing more than give you another point of view to assist in backing the car up, it's not like the car is parking itself like the new Lexus'

I don't really get it either. I can see it being useful when driving an SUV, because I drove one once and couldn't see shit out the back of it (hated it!), but the TSX is a small, easy-to-see-out-of sedan.

Rear view camera is a great mod and it gets more use from your Navi system.

Back up camera is just another safety feature like heads up display, HID headlights, Bluetooth, or heated mirrors. We really don't need them; but, they can make the car safer to drive for you and others.

I willing to bet, everyone who has kids has found a toy/bike/razor scooter right behind their car and almost ran over it. I usually don’t walk around my car every single time checking for hazards when backing out of the garage. If a rear view camera prevents me from doing that one time, it’s worth it.

If you're like me, a lot of research ended up being blurry ... "Wait, which car has the sport shift? Which car plays MP3s in the disc changer?"

Spend a little time reading the "Easter Eggs" thread, you'll find some hidden surprises you may not've known about. Some are in the manual (but pretty arcane), some are wholly undocumented.

Finally ... welcome to the TSX club (from another newbie) and welcome to the forums (ditto).

I have a rear spoiler and it makes it somewhat hard to see out the back, especially when parallel parking. I find the camera very helpful

I don't know if you own a TSX or not but if you don't have a spoiler, it's like staring out to an abyss.

Good point. Also, the "rear shelf" and high trunk of the TSX (not to mention many hybrids) makes it a little hard to see the front bumper of other cars.

I learned to parallel park in San Francisco, Parallel Parking Hell of the West. The trick is aiming for the middle of the space with your "butt," then cutting left when you see both headlights of the car behind you in your left driver's mirror. With a little practice, this gets you near the curb, and near the bumper of that car when you're parallel with the curb. YMMV. Try it with friends on the sidewalk to give you a score.

eh i just:
pull up halfway on the vehicle ahead of the space i want
look at my sideview mirror. and turn the wheel all the way the direction i want to turn.
back up til i no longer see a sidewalk
and back up slowly letting the wheel turn back the other way..
tada should be done now.. only problem is having too be in the MIDDLE of the space ha. other than that. sears drivers ed did pretty well.. lol

Well, I installed a rear-view camera on my Accord very easily. I already had the avelectronic video unit installed. I just had to tap into the braking lights to get it to power up.

In fact, the camera saved me from running over two very small frogs this morning!

This thread should be retitled: How to back into a parking space for dummies.

gatrhumpy: Glad to hear that those two frogs are okay.

Were is that thread on how to make the wiring harness?

I have an idea as to how to mount the camera. I was going to install it inside the trunk behind the license plate and drill a pinhole on the trunk lid and license plate for it to capture the image. On the inside you would not see it because it will be hidden by the trunk lid liner.

What do you guys think?
