a new transmission

i was thinking...my car has been in the shop for 7 days now and all they've told me is that they've order a new transmission for my car. now, how would this replacement of a new transmission affect the resale value of my car and will it reflect later on in the vehicle's car history? i'm beginning to think that i should demand for an entirely new car. what do you guys think? oh and on top of all that they've given me a ford taurus as a loaner car. what kind of car has other acura dealers been loaning out? i'm curious to know.

I'm not sure about the resale value...
But the dealership that I bought mine from has a bunch of Acura loaners..but if they run out, they'll send you to Hertz for a rental...or if you're under the age of 25

I can't imagine the new transmission affecting the resale value unless it's not a genuine Honda part. The TL that my family has also had a tranny replaced and the service rep assured us that there would be no difference. In fact, it might be a good point since the tranny will have fewer miles on it than the other parts in the car.

No effect on resale value. Just hope the repalcement is better than the original.

I am planning a tranny swap on my 6MT TSX....the tranny is starting to slip pretty bad and I am thinking just pay the $5k or so to swap it to an Automatic. Plus it will be easier to sell down the road.

What do you mean the tranny is slipping? Is it possible you just need a clutch?

I would never do a tranny swap. Just sell the car and buy one with an AT.

I agree. Given depreciation and what not, you're probably spending just about the same amount, and you have zero chance of the mechanics coming back to you and saying that they screwed up.

After the dealerships replaced my synchros, my gears have been slipping as well.

Funny how it just pops out, and occasionally grinds.

Can you describe what you mean by slipping? Do you mean that the shit lever doesn't stay in gear or do you mean that when you step on the gas you feel hesitation as you accelerate?

The shift lever doesn't stay in gear, it pops right back to the middle.

I have no idea what would cause that. I wonder if there's a problem with the shift linkage. Perhaps it's too short and when you have it in 1st, 3rd, or 5th it might not be engaging the gear fully. If my guess is right, you shouldn't have any problem with 2nd, 4th, or 6th.

I don't think manual transmissions "slip" A clutch can slip if one is hard on it, rides it does a lot of fast starts.
