New RB/Hawk HPS setup squealing!
At 57 kmi, I installed my new RB power slot rotos and Hawk HPS pads. I used the metal shim from the OEM pad since the Hawk pads didn't come with one. I also flushed out the fluid in my fronts since I had already removed the caliper. I put everything back together and I was very impressed with the stopping power that comes from this setup.
I'm now at 59 kmi. I was leaving a movie theater parking lot with my two front windows down. As I was pulling away from the parking lot, I noticed a loud metal squeal. It stopped as soon as I stopped the car, but it didn't seem to go away when I applied the brakes. I also can hear it driving at freeway speeds. I would try to step on the brake a few times to see if it would go away. Sometimes it did, but not all the time.
I did a quick search and found a few posts that described similar problems, but those problems were coming from the passenger's side. Mine on the other hand is coming from the driver's side. Some had recommended to apply a anti-squeal fluid on the pad. Others stated that it may be from debris caught between the pad and rotor.
I'm a little nervous about putting a fluid on the pad since I've never had to do this before. Previous cars that I had changed brakes on (all Hondas) never needed this fluid, but I would always stay with OEM pads. I'll check for debris on the pads, but is there one type of anti-squeal fluid that I should try out? If I use the fluid on the pad, is there anything I should keep an eye on? Also, how effective are these fluids? Do I have to re-apply them every few thousand miles?

The Anti-squeal compound doesn't go on the face of the pad, it goes on the back of the pad where the pad interfaces with the break piston. You should have put this on during pad installation. Not required I should say, but it helps keep break squeal down. But if your pads are squealing when you are not touching the breaks, it could be that the calipers are not freely moving on the 'rails.' Did you clean this area and lubricate when you replaced the calipers? I'm not familair with the shims.. are you certain you installed these properly?

The shims that I was referring is from the OEM pads. After I took off the OEM pads and compared them with the Hawk pads, I noticed that the metal piece on the back of the OEM pad was missing from the Hawk pads. I decided to transfer this metal piece to the Hawk pads before installation (There were a total of 4 from the front brake pads). Was I not supposed to put this on? Like I said before, I've usually stuck to OEM pads whenever I change brake pads, but this is the first time I'm using an aftermarket one. Any advise on this?

If you haven't had the problem for the first 2k miles i bet you may just have something caught in between the pad and the rotor. This happened to me once and it scared the crap out me because i only had like 1200 miles on the car. My driver side was squealing like crazy when i was moving, braking, anything involving moving but when i stopped it stopped. I got out and check and couldn't see anything but then all of a sudden, it just stopped and it was fine. I think something was caught in there, so just inspect it really well too!!
