Something is growing on my headlight.

Hello everybody;

I noticed something growing in my headlights a couple of months ago, it started off really small, and then it got bigger. I don't know what it is, maybe someone here can tell me what it is, or does anyone have or had a similar problem?

Here is a link to some pictures:

I got a letter from Acura a couple of days ago, saying that my TSX headlights cause condensation, could this be caused by that?

That's a new one to me. Never seen it before. But, it would make sense that moisture inside the lamp would lead to some sort of mold growth. I would take it to the dealer and have them address it. Whether or not the TSB for moisture in the headlight applies to your model, its an indication that Acura recognizes a recurring problem. If you're under warranty they should take care of it.

Hmm.. take it into the dealer and ask them what it is. I've never seen that before.

There is nothing growing on the outside. That is the orange reflector rubbing against the outer lens. The orange reflector must of popped out of place.

No there is nothing growing on the outside. It is very weird that no one ell’s has seen this before, I guess it is just my luck, I get the weirdest problems with my car like the steering wheel noise that to this day continues, and the dealership said there is nothing ells they can do.

I’m afraid they might not want to deal with it either and I’m still under warrantee. Does anyone recommend any dealership in the Los Angeles area that is not Cerritos Acura, or Sierra Acura of Alhambra?

Thank you all for your response, it is greatly appreciated.

Do you keep your car outside or in a garage?

hmm...I have something similar to that but I know it isn't mold, neither do I have any headlight condensation. It's some kind of stress point in the plastic of the headlights. Mine happens to have it on the orange reflector part on both sides.

looks like mold/mildew.. something you get in showers.. you're probably getting alot of moisture in there.. enough for it to survive... get the dealer to check it out... are you still under warranty?

Yes I'm still under warranty, I will take it in to the dealership. But It does not look like mold from upclose, it looks more like white sawdust, could be calcium deposits.

Once I know what it is I will keep you guys updated.

I can't stop chuckling at the idea personally.

At least Acura isn't stingy about replacing headlamps (in my experience at least). Mine were just replaced under the TSB, but before that I had them both replaced under warranty for condensation as well.

At first I thought it was some kind of worm, but it is fungus or mold.

So they replaced them initially and you got condensation in them again?

Yup. Both got condensation in them about a year ago and both were replaced under warranty. When the TSB came out, condensation was just starting to show in both headlights again. They replaced both assemblies, again, just this week. We'll see how they hold up this time!

Well I finaly took my car in yesterday, and they told me that it was in fact moisture. So they will replace the headlight under warranty.

Hopefully, this can help someone with the same problem.
