New Keys and Door Locks
New Keys and Door Locks
Hey guys,
My garage all of sudden closed down and I had to move my car to another garage. However, these dumb asses does not know where they put my spare valet key. Does anyone know how much it will cost to get new locks and keys? I thinking about suing them for this cost.
Thanks,
-Eric

Just looked up the parts and I'm coming back with a cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $900

Read my edit, it got worse. Call a lock shop and see if they can rekey it (they remove the cylinders and redo the tumblers).
Exclude the top part number: 90704-PNA-000
Cost is still about the same.

I still have the original 2 master keys and the valet key. I just wanted another master key to hide in the car somewhere. It's too fat to carry in my wallet, so I had a normal non-transponder key cut for the wallet. That will be good enough to open the door, then I can use the hidden master key to start the car.
I've done this because I used to lock my keys in my previous car all the time. It's harder to do with the TSX but is still very possible. I've also been out at bars where I've either lost my keys or someone has taken my jacket by accident leaving me keyless. Having a backup plan to get into the car is worth the $90.

I believe you are correct, but then, that's the price you pay. I personally wouldn't rely on the dealer anyway for something like this. The other issue I hadn't thought about... duh on my part, is you can't simply rekey. You'd have to buy all new blanks anyway and then have the immobilizer chips reprogrammed. Still less costly, but not as simple as I made it sound.

Why dont you get the immobilizer and the keys you have left re-coded. I think that the dealer can change the code. Even if that key turns up and someone does get into your car, they wouldnt be able to start it.
Morning guys,
Thanks for all the great advice. I am definitely going to consider all my options and give the garage another day or two to look before re-keying and re-programming.
