Mystery Bolt

On Saturday I bought a Meteor Silver '05 TSX with MT. It has 24K miles with 6 months left on the warranty. I found a 12mm bolt under the trunk release lever. The owner didn't recognize it. Does it look like it belongs on a TSX?

Thanks

Uhhhhh, not so sure about the TSX, but that looks an awful lot like the valve cover bolts from both of my last two cars. I don't quite remember what size they were on the Neon (although I should, I had to replace the head gasket enough times on it. Got to be just about routine maintenance) but they were 12mm on the Mazda.

Most of those bolts on the car body are 10mm, I can't think of any bolts near the rear of the car being 12mm

I'm thinking he means the trunk release lever right next to the driver's seat. If that's the case, could also have fallen from under the dash or the seat as well.

I've worked on Honda's for 16+ years and that doesn't look like any Honda fastener I've seen, although a picture of the shape/markings on the head would tell more.

12mm thread size or hex size?

not entirely sure, but that bolt looks similar to the bolts that hold the licence plate holder in the front.

Looks like the bolts that hold the front seats in.

That looks like the bolt that goes under the car for the splash shield or the spoiler. See #1 in pic.

If it helps, the hex head is 12mm. The number 10 is cast into the head. The owner always brought the car to Acura for service. Are there any bolts that get removed at this time?

Front seat mounting bolts have loose washer under the head and do not have the pointed "thread starting" tip. Plus they are 14mm hex.

Splash shield bolts are 6mm (10mm hex) and have a deeper shoulder under the head plus they also don't have the "thread starter" tip. Every one I've ever seen is black oxide finished.

Don't think I've ever seen a bolt with an unthreaded tip used in the interior of a Honda product. Only on some suspension bolts.

I'd be willing to bet this bolt has nothing to do with this car. Possibly brought into the interior on someone's shoe etc.
