Miserable sound from engine
still no answer to this oddity?? I to have this issue, I drive a 6 MT and not matter what gear or at idle it get the raddle exhaust sound around 2k rpm. I do recall funny enough having a very similar issue with my 1995 Integra. I had a vibrating sound at a certain rpm but when I upgraded my header to an aftermarket single solid pipe construction rather than the stock pipe-in-a-pipe it made the vibration go away. Could this be the same issue?
Mine's like a "whrrissshh" (That's gotta be a new sound description, LOL) Here's what's weird, that sound is louder when the road is wet! Can't be the tires because it goes away when I let go of the accelerator. Could be an exhaust leak. The dealership says no leak was found at the exhaust. Really Puzzling!

I am having a really annoying sound from the engine bay as well. It started sometime in Sept and because of the cold and lazyness I really haven't addressed it at all.
I think mine may be a bearing on the PS pump going bad. I haven't gotten a scope out yet but just feeling around (to what I could reach with my hand) the ps pump seems to be vibrating the most.
I haven't gotten around to trying this but if anyone else wants to give it a shot: You should be able to tell if it part of the drive train or something run by the drive belt if you pull off the belt and start the car up. Also you can check to see if a bearing is going if you get a lot of resistance at one point when manually turning the pulley.
Just out of curiosity does anyone know if the PS bearing is easy to get to with just taking the pulley off?

Came across this which is a reported issue with the timing chain tensioner that seem to be plaguing K series engines (HondaTuning made mention of this issue in this month's issue as well)...

Is there a specific audible symptom that may mean a problem that's leading to the same issue mentioned in the link above?
Thanks in advance!

sorry to bring this old thread back alive... did anyone found the source of the noise?
my 04 TSX with 60,000km has the similar noise around 1500-2500rpm. at first i thought it was transmission (5AT) but after some checking and driving, it occur when car is idle, or moving with AT in N. any input is appreciated, thanks!

No... never... the noise is still here after so many years.... the car is still running well.... so kindda adapted after so long.................
I have been told to share my experience over the past few years and here it is.....
I had been taking my car back to the dealership to locate the problem but obviously the dealership wasn't willing to spend time to the job as this is a warranty issue and which they won't make money off from the job. At the end, I took the car to my mechanic. While we took the TSX for a spin, he kindda figured that the noise is from the tranny.... probably have to do with the bearing in the tranny. To fix it, we are talking about breaking the tranny into pieces to replace the bearing, and that will cost $hit load of money, and obviously Honda won't do $hit about it unless if the entire tranny ran down. At the end.... I just live with it.
At the beginning of this year, when I took my car for tranny fluid change, they found that there is a leak at the gasket of the shaft and the tranny, they replaced the entire gasket right before the powertrain warranty expired. Which is a good thing.... when that was replaced, the noise seems to have gone but it returned again ultimately. I don't know whether the noise has to do with the leaky gasket but I personal think it may have to do with it as I had never experience a leaky gasket where located b/w the shaft and tranny... at least to me.
What I think is probably a manufacture defect somewhere in the tranny??
I wish I have the solution for you all but unfortunately I don't...sorry guys.

Partial throttle, light acceleration, rattle/jangle/gear-backlash noise.
Plan B is to change AT fluid to thicker weight. Anyone tried this?
First time posting,
Jonathan
This whistling sound under acceleration has got me crazy so I started doing some research.
Most people say the dealer told them it's normal and I guess most people just live with it. I don't think it's normal so I 'm trying to figure it out.
yesterday I played with the car to try and track it down.
1. A/C on, noise still there.
2. A/C off, noise still there.
3. Checked the cabin filter area while driving, no leaks (common issue on TL and made a whistling noise)
4. put the car in neutral and revved it while driving on the highway......noise not there...........could it possibly be tranny related?????????
I want to compile a list of everyone who has this issue and maybe we can figure it out. I guess if I have a long list of people, Acura won't ignore the facts. I heard a lot of people on Edmunds.com reporting the same issue as well so I'm going to post there too.
you can put the info on this thread or pm me

4. a/t or m/t
5. mileage
6. try neutral thing and see if noise goes away
