Unhappy Miserable sound from engine

There's this ringing sound from the engine when im going around 2000 - 2400 rpm with my 3rd, 4rd, and 5th gear.(AT) This happens mostly when im accelerating. i haven't notice any sound when im in my 1st and 2nd gear. I don't know what this comes from. I've been always on time to maintain the engine oil and the transmission oil. Have i busted my gearbox or something because i always use the SS to downshift through stops and corners.

there a bunch of them that run the length of the exhaust under the car, jack the car up and take a look. If you see a sheild that is touching then gently bend away from whatever it's touching.

You know, now that you mention it, I think I have that, too. More of a buzz from beneath the passenger floor boards around 2,500 rpm or so. Don't have to be accelerating hard but it's more pronounced when I am.

i went to the garage today, did a regular oil change and i asked the guy to check if the headshield is lose. So he jacked up the car and knocked a few times on the front part of the exhaust pipe (header), and he said everything is working fine and there's no losen headshield or anything. -_____________-''... [guess i got hustled]

and after the oil change and "check up", the problem is still there. I found that the ringing sound does not only occur when i'm driving around 2000rpm. It appears when the car is idling. (it was in Neutral gear). And the sound would be gone when i drop it into D and let go the brakes.

The ringing sound is some high frequence. it's barely noticable during daytime due the the traffic. It could be easily noticable during nighttime driving due to the less traffic flow.

I would look for the sounds myself...
Are you mechanically inclined?
If yes, jack up the car or put it on a lift and rev it to 2000rpm and start probing around.
Finding an annoying rattle can test the best patience.
BTW do you have the stock exhaust on the car, or aftermarket?

I don't know whether this imply to the problem on mine.... I heard virbating noise as well when my car is slowly accelerating to around 2k rpm even on first and second gears..... the noise is gone when it has gone to a certain speed.... it is very noticable... to myself at least... either during the day or night.... However, it doesn't give me any noise when I put the tranmission in neutral while give the gas pedal a press to approximately 2k rpm.....

I checked the problem w/ a friend of mine....a Honda Machanic and he can't find anything..... I won't even bother to rely on those machanic w/ Acura as they don't give a shit........

Now... I basically stuck at this point..... >.<

But he stated that if it is from the Transmission.... it will start giving a rough ride when changing gear before coming up w/ any noise......

At last pretty sure we are safe from breaking the Transmission......

That is exactly the sound I hear every fucking day. It's especially noticeable late at night (past 11 pm) when it gets quiet outside.

The high freq ringing also occurs when at a stop (in D) but is not always audible. You can hear it and then it fades a bit...then comes back.

my car currently has 78000km. do you think the warrenty will still cover the engine parts? should i bring it back to the dealership and let them check it out. cause the sound is getting annoying and it sounds like something has losen up or there's some problem with the engine. i can now hear it clearly when i hit 2700 - 3000. in every gear.

It should still under the warranty.... if the prob is casued from anything related to the powertrain...... your warranty shall cover you for 5 yrs/100,000 km. Get a hold of them and let them find out the source of the frigging noise..... at least you can get an idea what the hell the problem is even if you wanna get it fixed by your own garage. I need to take me in too shortly to see what kinnda of f..king noise it is. Keep me posted once you have any news!!!

HEy Shitbox.... I had my car chk today at the dealer and at first, they thought the noise was from the heat shield from the exhaust and they replaced the new one for me. However, the same noise is still there and it was catched by the machanic when I had a road test w/ him.. he thinks it may be problem from either the brake pad; a rusty rotor; or a problem drive shaft..... I still dunno whether it helps as they dun have the parts for me till next wed.... did u ask the dealership the chk for the items above?

I still haven't bring it back to the dealership yet. which acura dealership did you go to? thanks for the info. it's interesting that the problem is not about the heatshield. I'll probably bring it back next week.

Noticed the same ringing sound in my 05 TSX loaner the other day. I can see how some dealers might think it normal, since they first check their cars before looking at yours.

Anyway, hope someone figures it out.

TSX's don't have drive shafts. Cars with drive shafts are usually RWD, AWD or 4WD.

We do however have drive axles. FWD.

Drive Shaft is the shaft that links the tranny to the rear wheels. The pipe looking thing that goes down the center of the car underneath the car. There is 1 dreive shaft in a RWD, AWD and 4WD vehicle.

Since our cars are FWD, our axles take the power as well as steer. Hence drive axles. There are 2 drive axles in a FWD car.

Anyway, I will be taking it to the dealer next Wed and I hope that will help to solve the mystery of da freaking noise!!!

sorry to bring this old thread back alive... did anyone found the source of the noise?
my 04 TSX with 60,000km has the similar noise around 1500-2500rpm. at first i thought it was transmission (5AT) but after some checking and driving, it occur when car is idle, or moving with AT in N. any input is appreciated, thanks!

I think I have this issue too, although mine sounds kind of like crickets chirping, not so much a ringing. Only happens during acceleration around 2500-3000 RPMs. My dealer did a few things to try to fix it (belt tensioner, trans. fluid flush) but nothing worked. I gave up because it was a pain to take the car in every weekend for service. I have an 06 MT with 60000 miles. The problem occurs in every gear.

Mine just started with something similar. Every gear (at least 2nd through 5th), if I press the pedal more than halfway down, the revving sound is awful around 2500-3200 rpms or so. Gentle acceleration, or outside of that rpm range, it sounds perfectly normal. This is definitely something that just appeared in the last week or so. It's not like crickets chirping or ringing though.. but sounds like something's wrong with the engine, only in those conditions.

I recently got an oil change and new rear brakes, both at the Acura dealer. Mine is an 04 MT with 55000 miles.

Count me in as having the same issue for the last 6 months. I'm currently at 108,xxx miles. Changed out the S-belt, auto tensioner, but "chirping" "squeeling" still exists. Good news is it hasn't gotten any worse. Maybe axles?

Mine as well... Jingle, whistling, hissing sound around the same RPM... Dealership thinks it's my comptech icebox. I'm going to swap my stock intake back on today.
