Leather Seat Wear

Good Morning,

I am an owner of a SSM w/Navi...and I've had the car since June 1st and I'm noticing some wear (think lines) on the drivers seat...Any suggestion for a leather softener or something...I'm not feeling the way it's looking.

Did anyone else have the same problem.

So far I love my TSX...

Thanks.

where are the lines? on the non-perforated part? If so, thats actually vynol not leather and seems to be fairly common.

What I do is try and keep protectant on the surface. The means wiping it down ever 2 or 3 weeks. I use 303. This seems to do a good job of preventing it from getting worse. And while its freshly applied you cant see the lines at all.

anyone have white spots on their black leather interior seats? im thinking mine has something to do with either a) the heated seats, or b) sitting on them after playing tennis, sweat marks...., or c) my leather is changing colors. pls advise.

That is the residue salt from your sweat. Lexcol Leather cleaner/conditioner should do you well.

I believe that info is a little off. The entire seating surface is leather, and only the actual sides and back are vinyl. That means more than just the center perf'd area is real leather. I'm just correcting you because I don't want you (and others) incorrectly using vinyl protectant/cleaner on your leather surfaces! One caveat, I am basing this off what I know about my S2000 -- but both cars have "leather-trimmed seats". I can easy tell the difference between the vinyl and leather by feel by rubbing a finger across both. The vinyl feels slightly softer (and maybe thinner).

The concensus is that only the perforated parts of the seats in the TSX are leather. There have been several threads on this.

I'll have to check that out when the 2005s come out, but I think people are getting the story mixed up. Yes the seats are not full leather, but what I have read is that the entire seating surface is leather. That would mean more than just the center perf'd section, and that would follow with how the seats are done in my S2000. I would be surprised if my Honda seats where better than ones in an Acura!

Well, I'm just going by the information thats been passed on this site, and there really hasnt been much debate about it.

Maybe you are incorrect about your S2000? In any case, its not that big of a deal (to me anyways)

Nope, I'm not. There was a lot of discussion about it back in the day. Like I said, it's easy to feel the difference between vinyl and leather if you rub your finger across it the right way.

Like I said, I just brought it up because I don't want you (and others) incorrectly using vinyl protectant/cleaner on your leather surfaces.

One more point, the fact that the surface is developing wear lines also suggests the non-perf'd sections of the seating surface are indeed leather. I think some people here have been inadvertantly propogating some misinformation.

In my dad's '01 MDX, its very obvious which part of the seat is real leather vs. vinyl. There are non-perforated portions of the seat which are leather (and are also developing wear lines). Even on the headrests, you can tell that the front is real leather but the sides are not. The difference is in the texture of the material: the real leather is softer.

However, it may be easier to tell this difference with parchment leather instead of ebony.

With my ebony interior in my S2000, the leather feels stiffer than the vinyl -- but that may be because the leather is thicker than the vinyl. There are slight texture differences too, but they didn't seem as aparent at first when the leather was new.

Not to pick a bone fdl, but I think the consensus eventually did emerge that all the upper (butt and back touching) parts of the seat are leather.

The "wear lines" that you refer to, I assume, are wrinkle-looking things. I bet a decent cleaning would make them go away. Just conditioning wont help. Need lexol cleaner (or some cleaner) or 6:1 water:woolite.

Good luck.

Re what is leather and what is not:
I suppose the only best way to find out is doing a CSI kinda thing: find a wrecked TSX
, cut sample pieces from various areas and take them to the microscope.
Science don't guess don't lie. This shall settle it.

Wear on leather seats

The leather is wearing on the front bottom seat...It's more like lines on the preforated portion of the seat. Will a Lexol Leather cleaner work? Any suggestions.

Thanks.

Miner's right, it is salt residue. If you don't get it off and recondition the leather, it can leach into the leather texture and permanently mar the surface................ I would look for a good leather reconditioner to work over the portions that have been "salted"; in the future, throw a towel into the car and sit on that until you've sponged dry....... yeah, talking about leached body salt is pretty repulsive, but unless you intend to stop sweating soon...............

The entire seating surface is leather, as are the seat sides facing outward. The sides of the seats facing the console are vinyl. You can see and feel the contrast between the inner sides of the seats and the non-perforated leather seating surfaces sewn to the inner sides. Honda did exactly the same leather-vinyl split on the Pilot and on the last TL. At least on the TSX, the headrests are leather. On the Pilot, they are vinyl.

My driver's seat leather is being replaced today under warranty.
I figure I'll do it again at the end of warranty.

I had the same thin lines.

Maybe the '05s are different, but I wrote to Acura (regarding my '05) and they told me definitely that only the perforated parts are leather. Anyway, if the vinyl is so good that is causes this confusion, then who cares?

Not sure about leather conditioner, but I wrote to Armor All and they told me that you can indeed use their leather protectant spray on vinyl, and that it contains the same UV protectants as their regular (vinyl) product, plus added stuff for leather, which they say does no harm to vinyl. For what it's worth.
