Issue starting car

TSX 2005 having intermittent starting issues. When I crank the starter I have had to crank it up to 4 times to get the engine running. It seem random. I once started the car without issue and turned it off then back on in two minutes and I would have crank it many times. The worst part is when I take it to the shop they tell me it could not reproduce the issue. I had the battery and alternator checked out and they are good. I my thought is it could be the fuel pump? I dont want to start replacing things at random.

Possibly the reef valve in the pump (non-serviceable) not maintaining the pressure in the line after shut off or leak after the pump somewhere. Best way to diagnose is to attach a fuel pressure gauge, start car and allow to run for a few minutes. Shut off and observe the fuel pressure for pressure loss. if no leaks found, replace pump.

Checking fuel pressure requires an expensive test kit to fit a test gauge to the system. Most shops will have the equipment.

An indirect pressure test can be performed by turning keyswitch to on, pause 3 secs, and then Off. Repeat twice and try starting. If starting is good, then intermittent hard start is fault of leaking check valve in fuel pump. Fix is a new fuel pump.

good luck
