How to prevent stuff from getting in here?

This design of the gas pedal definitely offers more control over the "conventional" design but the disadvantage of it is that it seems impossible to prevent liquid (i.e. melted snow) from reaching that plastic plate or the carpet area around it (see picture). The water simply runs down the pedal and reaches the bottom.

What I'm afraid of is that, in the long run, enough water and dirt would infiltrate under that plate and start to cause permanent damage to the floor.

How do you guys prevent shit from getting there?

I would invest in some all season floor mats. You should be able to the oem ones for under $100.

A small price to pay to prevent shit.

Unfortunately I find that this happens even with the all-season mats.

Yeah, me too. I removed the all season mats and took a semi-stiff scrub brush and gave the edges of the carpet a light brushing the other day. Seems to help remove some of the ground-in "shit" that gets trapped in the corners and edges just outside of where the all season mats coverage ends (including where the pedal meets the floor).

Yeah I didn't think the OEM all-season mats would prevent that...

I guess the best workaround would be to have a towel somewhere on the floor where you can just step on it to dry as much as possible your right shoe.

Fortunately, it's a real problem only in the winter, with slush and snow...

ya, winters can make that area look pretty bad, even with the oem winter mats.

i have some generic walmart winter mats, and that area near the gas pedal can get dirty.

but, like someone suggested, scrubbing the area once in awhile should keep that area clean enough...

Yeah the all season mats are really nice but the stuff just runs under the mat and around the pedal. It also happens with the dead pedal. Thats just the disadvantage to the floor hinged design.

How about a small sponge lodged between the pedal bottom and floor mat. At least that would soak up any water and it's easy to replace..........

i usually take my shoes off before entering the car, then i put them in a bag..

well not really, but i bang my shoes together to get rid of most of the shit before entering,. for me it's mostly sand, looks like a sandbox after only a few days.
