How, if possible, do you turn off the Dimming Rearview mirror permanently?

II recently got my windows tinted 15 % and I want to shut off the auto dimming rearview mirror because it is way to dark with it on. Every time I shut off the unit it turns back on the next time I start the car. I am coming to the conclusion that I will have to unplug it in order for this to happen but I dont want to do that. Let me know whats up please........

Unplug, or a very small piece of black electrical tape over the sensor that faces the rear of the car.

There is not easy way to do it other than to unplug it. You could connect the mirror to a constant 12v and that would do it, but not sure of the power drain on the battery.

Good idea, I did not think of the tape. Maybe even a little rubber plug.

Other way around... when that sensor is dark it tints the mirror, only when it sees light does it leave it alone. (I believe...)

there are 2 sensors in the mirror, one facing forward, one facing rearward.

when the rearward facing sensor sees more light than the forward facing sensor, then it dims the mirror.

so if you cover only the rear facing sensor, then it should never go dark on you. or you could just reach behind the mirror and remove the plug and let it hang there.

I replaced mine altogether with a plain ol' manual one for less than $20 at Autozone. Dimming the mirror is one thing I want to do myself. The automatic ones are always too slow and more annoying than they're worth, IMHO.

Pay 15 bucks for a wide rear view mirror on ebay. Worked for me.

Wont those mirrors fall off easily??? How do you mount them after taking the old one off. i also like the way the auto dimmer one looks. The others look cheap like the one in my parents RDX...

Yeah, I noticed it isnt that bad after all... I thought it looked bad but I think it is almost the same durring the day and night now. I think the tints block out alot of the light so the unit doesnt dim as much. Has anyone noticed this??

Yes, you have.

No problems with seeing out through my tint.

With my tint (20% all around), I noticed its dimming less, but that's obviously going to happen since tint blocks light. So the sensor isn't being hit from the rear with as much light, so it dims less. Logic.

Obviously I have noticed because I said it in the first line... I was asking others. Thanks for the input though.
