grind on a cold start

after i start my car from a cold start and press the gas to go forward (does not do it in reverse) you hear some type of grinding. It only does it once when first starting out and dosn't do it again until another cold start. Any idea what this is?

it's just a little something to make you lose your mind. I heard something similar a while back, but in a totally different situation. In fact, I've heard enough mystery noises to make me
Since summer ended and the windows have gone up and the stereo has been turned down, I've been accompanied by a soundtrack of "what the F was that?" noises. I'm losin' it here!!!!

S E A R C H . This topic has been covered a lot. The ABS pump primes and test fires itself.

and the reason that you don't hear (I'm guessing) it in reverse... is ABS does not work in reverse.

Actually, I think ABS does work in reverse... or at least it did on my 89 BMW. Haven't tried it on the TSX yet. Next time it rans I will though.

well... i'm basing this on my GS-R, which in reverse does not use ABS. Also, the hybrid doesn't either. I can't get the ABS to ever come on in the S2000 and it never leaves the garage in the snow or rain, so don't know if ABS works in reverse.

One way to find out if ABS works in reverse in the TSX is to apply the brakes in reverse on a snow covered road... just have to wait for some snow or ice.

I don't know if the ABS *works* in reverse, but I do know that the pump primes from a cold start even if you're backing up. In Mom's MPV and Dad's Maxima, I hear the thump/clunk by the time I hit the end of the driveway....I don't hear/feel it in my EL, though.
