read about my grueling day at the dealr

so i asked the service manager about my problem he tells me that its possibly my driving habit but he does have this complaint with the TL's and MDX's getting anywhere from 8-10 miles per gallon so it made me feel slightly better. He told me theres not much he can do but run a little test because theres no specific way to test for these things. He said he'd have to fill in a gallon, run it a mile and repeat and see what the results are. Other than that he can only check for leaks and blah blah blah but in the end, i've got nothin =|

Try what I suggested. If you run the car in cruise control and continue to experience the poor mileage, then fuel economy is justifiably not your problem. However, if the car is able to obtain reasonable fuel mileage, then it is time to start rethinking how you are driving the car.

If you're cruising at 55 mph on a highway and not getting at least 25 mpg, then you actually have a problem. If the cruise control is unable to replicate at least that, then you have a justification to continue to hound Acura about the problem. However, if the car is easily able to replicate at least that mileage, then your driving habits are what need to be fixed, not the car.

I get about 20-21 mpg if I drive aggressively. This is also the mileage when the car was new. In traffic I average about 22-23mpg. I average around 26-27mpg if I do a good mix of driving. If it's all Highway, i average 30-31mpg

If you are dipping into the teens for your mpg, there is something seriously wrong with your car and you should get it checked. btw I have a 04 TSX 6MT.

Damn that sucks man. I'll try to go to the dealership whenever I can. What I would have done is say so what if TLs were getting 8-10 miles a gallon. My car is not saving gas so you guys need to fix it. If they talk at my driving problem, someone's going to reigned on. Someone mentioned that it could be the MAP sensor. If I fixed the problem with that sensor, do you guys think Acura will reimburse me? Right now, they are just being a bunch of lazy people.

ugh =\ i just filled my tank and i went 8 miles on local driving like a grandma... the MID displayed a low of 13.7 mpg and a high of 15.9... this is bs, its 19 degrees outside but i don't think it would make too much of a difference. I stayed under 3000 rpms and i coasted as much as possible, i even let it roll down a hill and waited for it to stop rolling before i put it in drive... still crappy mileage

Try calling the Acura dealership again and tell them that. See what they say =[.

8 miles in stop and go traffic immediately after filling a tank is hardly enough to go on. Instead of the constant whining like a little girl, why don't you try what some of us have suggested? If you really want to determine if the car is not running properly or not, you need to have hard evidence. Just a 25 to 30 miles freeway cruise at constant speed using the cruise control should be able to tell you very quickly if the car requires attention.

So stop complaining about it and do something.

How many miles are on your car Tsx6363.

I approached the same problem, even at 3-4k miles on the odometer. I was only matching 13-14mph on the small display, and it was bugging me out. I then went to the Azine Drive and Cruise meet, which had hardly any stoplights at all, and got a good 27mpg on my 06AT within 2hours of driving. Then from 7-8k miles, I still got 15-16 mpg, but I remembered that I got 27mpg at the meet. This simply meant that my driving habit was killing my mpg. Mess around with your habits which probably need changing. I had a HUGE lead foot, and still kinda do, but I get 19-21 mpg on city driving.

Play around with it. I've had mine for a year now, and the more you experiment with this car, the more you learn about it.

I couldn't imagine only getting 15-16mpg out of my TSX. My 04 has 70K miles, and I average 25mpg in the winter and 29-30 in the summer. I blame it on my areas "winter gas" and the colder temps.

Oh, I also have an intake and exhaust and a 6MT model.

you don't understand how hard it is to be able to cruise at 55-60 in new york, even on the highway on weeekends its hard. And 25-30 miles is like outtttt there lol theres nothing really that far away that i need to go to.

It's broken in, but you need to be fully broken in etc. 6-10k miles on your odometer to get a damn good MPG for your AT. Mine started kicking in around 7k on the odometer.

Just polish up your driving habits along the way while you rack more miles on your car. Believe me, it'll go up.

Yea i am the same as you EuRTSX, my commute to work is only 3 miles (actully 2.88) and the cars doesn't even warm up by the time i get it there. I filled up this past weekend and did relatively more highway and started the week of commuting with the MID saying 22.7 MPG. This morning when i got to the train station it now says 19.2 MPG Driving my commute hasn't gotten me any better than 21 and that was in the summer in my broken in 04. With the new 06 in the winter i'm getting around 18 right now cause i only have about 1100 miles on the car. I really hope it gets better.....

I have 12,000 miles on my car and I can assure you nothing will change. It's not driving habits. It's definitely something else. Somebody's gonna need to show me to how to drive if it is.

Well then you better test your car on cruise on the highway to see if your MPG fairs out well. If it doesn't there's something wrong with your car. If not, you have poor driving habits. At 12k miles, you should have a good MPG reading on your car. I just drove to work, (8 Mile Drive on the highway) and I got my MPG from 20 to 26MPG in a jiff. Too easy.

I mean really, stop shaking your head making this look like it's the car's fault. You need to fully break in your engine, before you start hitting decent MPG. And you're not gonna get good gas mileage from just driving to the gas station and to your friends house. Your MPG isn't going to get any better from you crying about what you're reading from the on the display.

Oh and to rub it in a little more than necessary, the reading on your display is generous to your actual MPG reading.

i'm not really blaming the car, i'm just stating that theres a problem and i doubt that it's my driving. Second, theres also people who tell me they have 22+ mpg mix driving with under 2k on their cars so yeah... 3rd of all, i think i have a right to address the crappy mileage that i'm getting, if you got only 60% of the EPA mpg you'd cry too

I'm getting pretty crappy mileage right now too. I have about 1600 miles and I have to fill up every 4 days it seems. the MID tells me that I am averaging anywhere from 24-27 mpg but it doesn't seem so, hopefully this will change after more miles are put on the car.

Like I said. Both of you guys have little over 1000 miles on your odometer. Now if you still have this problem when you hit 10k miles on your odometer, it's safe to say that either your car has a problem, or your driving habits blow.

Hmm....I admit it. I was driving to Hudson bowling lanes from Brooklyn and back. On the way back I got gas at Bayonne. I drove back which was about 25 miles. It didn't even use 1 gallon of gas. Well in the end, the TSX only saves gas driving on the highway. On local, it doesn't save any gas at all.

Gonna have to disagree with that. I drive straight local, reset my display, and after 100 miles, I'm still running 26 mpg.

Don't mean we don't got Stop Lights and Stop signs.

We got plenty enough on my way to school. Enough to make me 30 minutes late to my first class.

Mileage Update

Okay so I took the advice from the forum and conducted the experiment. I reset my trip meter, filled up on gas $3.27/gallon ($40 total) , and went on the highway.

Drove for about 10 minutes @ 65 mph and then exited the freeway. I checked my MPG and was surprised 28.5!

In conclusion, I blame my crappy mileage from previous posts on city driving, my occasional speeding, and not taking highway more often. When I started driving local again it dropped to 24 MPG. I'm so glad my car is ok, hope the rest of you figure out your problem.

I still don't believe the TSX can save gas on local. I keep the RPMs at 2500. At launch, it goes over it a bit cause it shifts slow. So, I'm not sure how you guys are getting 20 mpg. In NY, there's a traffic light or stop sign almost every few hundred feet.

Apparently you don't go outside of your state much.

I've been to NY plentyful amount of times, and I can assure you, we have more than enough places here to compare your traffic with ours.

I have 1250 miles on my 06 5AT and this past tank of gas i got 17.6 mpg when i calculated. The MID said 18.5. The MID has been within 1 mpg every fill up so far so that is close enough for me, but should i really be getting 17.6?? My commute is what kills it i think. My commute is only 2.88 miles one way in the morning to the train station and then 2.31 miles to the gym after work, and then 1.8 miles home from there. So by the time the engine warms up, i'm there and sitting in my warm car waiting for the train. This is the worst gas mileage i have ever gotten on both my old 04 and now 06 TSX

Any tips to help me save on gas with my type of commuting?

^^ be gentle on the accelerator, upshift before 3000RPM, lift and coast longer approaching red lights.

See, i do that and that is one of the reasons i'm confused. I don't usually ever go over 4k RPM's at the highest point for like 1 light cause if you don't make it then you get stuck forever!...lol. Other than that, i never shift above 3k especially since my car doesn't really get warm until i get to the train station anyway. Then when i hit the hill i kick it into neutral and cost for like 1/2 mile or so to the light. I am hoping its cause it still the "break in process" but even with the 04 with 35k miles on it i still only got 19-20 mpg.

When you're only driving 2.88 miles, the engine doesn't even fully warm up. Your best bet for saving fuel, buy a bicycle to use during the warmer months for your commute. Not only will that save gas, but in the evenings, you'll be warmed up by the time you get to the gym.

Thanks for the tip! If i didn't have to dress nice for work then i have thought about it....lol. Acutally, there is this little Asian guy that drives one of those little mopeds and locks it to the easily stealable bike rack...haha I like the point about the being warm for the gym though
