Garbage for mileage?
Garbage for mileage?
I'm getting roughly 15-17 mpg for city driving... it's really killin me here, i get under 200 miles per tank. i admit i do drive a little hard but i don't believe it would make a big difference.. my friends tell me it's because the car isn't broken in yet but is that the case? My car has about 1500 miles on it.. your

I agree with your friends that your car isn't broken in yet. Wait till you have several thousand miles in and you'll see an improvement. If you want to investigate this further, there's plenty of threads that talk about this. Just use the

feature.
i don't think it's the matter of broken in or not, b/c i am at 8,000 miles, and from my gas consumption data, for most of my tank, i got 16ish mpg per tank, that's around 210 miles per tank. my worst is 14.7 mpg and the best is 18.7mpg for pure city driving. btw i don't drive hard at all......
Those are some real shitty mileages you guys get. I wonder what the cause is. I drive in nasy cold Canadian winters and usually drive aggressively(depending on how warm the engine is), but never manage to get below 22mpg.
My average is a steady 28mpg

That's worse than a Hummer!
I don't know how you drive, but based my experience with the TSX and the number of times that I drove the crap out of my car, I would say it's almost impossible to get that kind of mileage even if I redlined every gear and came to a stop every 200 yards.
Try to drive like a grandma for a full-tank and see if you get 20+ mpg. If you don't, then there's something majorly wrong with your car.

I do mixed city and highway and i get 24 consitent with an odd 25mpg....
I have got 32 all highway, from colorado springs to sacramento with intermitent heater... and about 250 pounds of luggage
It just depends on how much you accelerate....
I v v important thing that i noticed, if i take off easily at a stop light and then forsee traffic and let the feet off the gas paddle and just brake when required, rather than accelerating till the point you need to brake, improves my milage tremendously....
you could see the effect of this on the multi function display, when you release the gas paddle, the instant miles would show above 60 mpg.

i got 360 out of my first tank of gas. ran it all the way down till the info gave me 10 miles left.
filled it up with 91 (prev was 89) and after the first 78 miles it's already down a quarter tank. wtf?????
at this rate i'm getting about 40 less mpg with 91 vs 89 octane

i usually get at least 350 miles per tank and i'm easy with the ocassional rip on the throttle. I used to get over 400 miles per tank average and almost 500 miles per tank when i do almost all highway driving.
Well, according to the "new" EPA estimates (can be found at www.fueleconomy.gov), the TSX is now rated at 19/29 mpg IIRC.
However, I was always closer to the old estimates of 23/32. In suburban driving (back roads, stop & go traffic, and no highway), I get 24-28 mpg. I get in the 30s on the highway. Can't wait for the weather to warm up b/c my mpg did drop to around 24 once it got cold.

The low mileages have to be the result of driving styles or mechanical problems because even when I drive my car hard, I have a hard time replicating the type of super low mileage that some people are observing.
Just a thought...are you guys constantly on-off the gas? This actually uses up more fuel than if you were to just maintain a steady state on the gas pedal.

that's strange... even in the worst Atlanta city traffic, my 6MT (with 18,000 miles) gets 20-24 mpg, combined with highway for a weekly average of 26-29 mpg. I fill up every 350 miles, and it takes 12 gallons to fill her up.
Its likely your driving style. All the tips say to avoid hard braking....that's technically wrong....what they meant to say is that you should use the brakes as little as possible by simply coasting (no gas pedal) as far as possible. In Toronto, I usually get anywhere between 1-10 looks a day in my 30km drive; they think I'm accelerating too slowly and braking too slowly. But I get to my destination in a very good amount of time....its a challenge but move into top gear quickly and coast/light throttle. Also snow tires can harm mileage...check your tire pressures move them up to close to 34-35lbs.

I used to get 16 mpg/city, but now I'm getting 19. I have 2950 miles and it's slowly improving. Maybe it's because I drive 3 minutes to work each way...does that affect it?
If it's highway I get about 22.

Ok after reading all the informative posts, my mileage pales in comparison!!!
Note to self:
Stop driving like a maniac
Drive on the freeway for more than a few miles
Stop using AC 24/7
I hope this helps because I'm getting paranoid that something maybe wrong with the car.

heavy footed people having 11-18mpg in the city...
i personally think it's way too impossible for some of yall to get that kind of mileage.
i only have about 5k miles on it, and im getting 26 mixed, and i'm mostly driving to school and back
on the weekends im usually on the highway getting atleast 30mpg.
another tip:
- for AT people, when coming from a stop, try and accelerate to 2500-2700.
at first it will seem ridiculously slow, but it will definately work
- light FEET!
try that out...
