Engine "clunk" sound in AT TSX

I have been noticing that on some occassions, there is a thumping sounds (like something is dropping down in the transmission) when I put it into drive after reversing. It's like a "clunk" sound(dropping a dumbbell weight on carpet). Has anyone experienced this in an auto tranny TSX? I thought maybe my car was part of the tranny case replacement thing, but my VIN isn't in the range of the "recall."

I bought my PWP TSX in May and I had that happen once. I'm not too concerned about it. If the transmission goes, hopefully it'll go during the warranty period. J/K If you take it to the dealer I'm 99.99999% sure that they'll say it's normal.

Is it a clunk or more of a mechnical pop? There will be a fairly audible sound when the tranny is switching from reverse to drive that is the case with all cars. This is simply the drive train changing the direction of rotation. Not a huge problem if this is what you're referring to.

I have the same clunk. It happens after reversing out of the garage about 5 seconds or more after switching AT from reverse to drive. At first I thought it might have been the AC compressor kicking on/off but AC settings didn't make a difference. It does seem like ABS resetting (whatever that is) seems as likely as anything. It does seem to originate from the driver floor more than the engine comparment or transmisison (althgough it is hard to tell exactly). Eurostyle, what is "abs resetting"?

The "clunk" sound is coming from the tranny. ABS resetting sound is softer and longer (more like vibration sound than a "clunk"). I've never heard ABS resetting on the TSX though.

Hey TSX7,
If the "clunk" sound is coming from the tranny, what is it?
Is it considered to be "normal" operations or is there damage occuring?

With regards to the ABS resetting, do you know why it makes such as racket?
Isn't there something the dealer can do to quell the noise and vibration?

I have the saem problem

I talked to y brother about it he said that its the clutch. Too me it sounds right because if I stop completely after reversing, switch to drive forward, then wait about 3 seconds and drive, it does not make that noise. Why don't you guys try it and see what happens.

This is a topic discussed numerous times. It is on all the tsx's it seems. Mine seems to be less frequent compared to the first few months I had the car.

I believe when ABS resets, it performs pump activation test to check and see if the system is working properly (ABS sensors are also checked simultaneously). When the system fails the test (you won't hear ABS resetting [no noise/vibration]) it lights up the ABS malfunction light on the dash to let you know your ABS is dead. Have you heard ABS reset on your TSX? I owned Toyotas in the past (first time owning a Honda) and I can hear it reset everytime I put it in drive but never heard it in TSX. If the "clunk" noise is from ABS resetting, I expect to hear it everytime I put it in drive but I don't so it can't be the ABS.
