electrical issue

in the summer after a good rain. my electrical system goes haywire. the radio works fine blower fan also. looking at the cluster the temp guage goes to 3 dashes. directionals dont work. windsheild wipers only go full blast. this hapens as soon as i hit 39mph. before that everything works fine. i realized while driving that if i push any of the window switches down everything starts to work for a short period of time. let it go same prob. go under 40 everything works. i live on long island and drive the highways a lot. so directionals are kind of important. like driving in a nascar race at caustion speed, during the beggining and end of rush hour. My mechanic is an audi mechanic and good friend. which is why i take my acura to an audi mechanic. he think that whatever is equivalent to the body control module of an audi is whats wrong with my car. does the tsx have one? is that what its called? should i just take it to acra and get it checked. hasnt rained here for a while so everything is working fine. In the fall to spring everything works fine. even last year when we got record snow fall. I hit the unlock button on the remote 3 times in nov of last year while moving in the rain. all the windows were down a little but noticed the problem once b4 this. but it was more intermittent.

Sorry, no idea. I've never seen anyone ask about this.

Have you tried resetting the ECU? This is just a guess: Wonder if moisture is getting into the ECU which maybe is playing havoc to the electricals. Several years ago, a forum member reported his ECU got flooded due to poor drainage from the heater core area. Unfortunately his car was deemed unsafe to drive.
May need to bring it to Acura for a confirmed diagnosis.

You think that 25 minutes, after 1 AM on a Thursday night, qualifies as "everyone"? Sheesh, give the members of this board some time (day, two days, etc...) to respond!

For what its worth, I'd check for water pooling in a fuse box (under hood) or elsewhere close to centralized electrical wires and connections, such as wiring harnesses where they clip into other harnesses or panels.

It rained about 8 inches in my area for the past 3 days. I lost my remote capabilities. My left right turn signals. My door locks. Remote trunk release. Fog lights. Instrument cluster dim adjustment.

Check your battery and its cables and grounds. They could be loose and rain was coincidence. Or not... Just a thought. If it were me, I'd make sure all related bolts were snug and grounds that I could see were clean and snug. I'd make sure the alternator wasn't wet, and I'd see if I noticed a musty smell inside the car from moisture inside. Maybe your sunroof was a millimeter from being all the way closed and some rain came in. Lift up your floor mats and feel for dampness. Inspect with a flashlight and your nose. Pull out the top center storage bin (under A/C). Just place two hands inside, make fists w/ slight pressure on each side of the bin and use the friction to pull it forward. Once that's out, have a peek inside there with flashlight and see if there is any moisture back there. (The ECU is back there.)

Curls has a point about the fuse boxes. I'd check at least the one in the engine. But it never hurts to have a look-see at the others, too (one on each end of the dash).

Hmmm... OP, the speed thing seems odd to me--as if somehow the pressure or wind is exacerbating a loose connection somewhere. Lemme look at Helms while I have it open and only a 3-day subscription.

This sounds like a multiplex issue. I had an Accord that had a small leak in the left bottom corner of the windshield. Every time it rained, water would trickle down the firewall and saturate the integrated multiplex control unit. Weird things would happen after this. My turn signals would activate the wipers, my tach would bounce all over unless I revved the engine above 4k, and if I turned the wipers on, they wouldn't turn off. I suggest either bringing it in for diagnosis or following the troubleshooting charts in the factory service manual. In any case, it's pretty obvious that water is interacting with electrical circuits somewhere.

So whenever it rains now, the battery drains. I read about this somewhere. Some civic owners perhaps?

It is strange b/c my sister drives a 2005 Honda Pilot. The battery on that car drained 3 times each time after a rainy day. I don't think this is a coincidence anymore.

I will check on the multiplex(?) to see if it applies. How do you check if the windshield is leaking? Should I get an air blower or some type???

I would maybe have someone poor large amounts of water on the windshield while monitoring the firewall around where your pedals are etc. I really have no idea about what it causing the battery drain issue.
