This just happened to me.

hey guys.

havent put up a reply in forever...but this just happened to me as well. my 2005 a/t non-nav with 85k miles had the pass. front lock go.

at first it was slow going up and down...but now its just gone. is $250 the price i should expect to pay at the dealer?

also...just an fyi...my battery died about 3 weeks ago..and was i was putting a new one in at the auto store a guy came up to me saying his 2005 tsx had a battery failure the same day and he was there to buy a new one also. SO...keep an eye on your battery...it may be getting ready to take a dive.

That is the general concensus on what the cost is at the dealership. But you can buy the part for way less than that and do it yourself in an hour or two.

Just had the problem happen to me last week....it was working every so often but this weekend it died. Ordered the part from Del Rey Acura.

Question though, does the passenger side lock affect the trunk lock? Ever since the front passenger actuator went, I haven't been able to use the trunk button on the trunk unless I manually unlock the door, use the remote, or the lever inside the car.

Mine started to go out last week on the drivers door. I thought it was a remote battery issue. Almost 5 years on the original remote battery. I guess i'll look in to buying actuator now.

The door actuator grumbled at me when I unlocked it this morning. I'm sure it will need to b e replaced soon. I also noticed that this effects locking and unlocking the rest of the car when clicking the button twice.

Add me to the list. 05 5AT TSX Driver door. They should have a recall for this item because this list is getting huge.

Add me to the list. Passenger side door lock gone.

Have already replaced the driver's side door lock about a year and half ago.

Initially, I was not happy. But it is just an inconvenience. Not something that I need to fix right away.

Guys:

Is this door lock actuator problem something that's hitting only 2004 and 2005 TSXs? Or is it the entire 2004-2008 first generation TSX line?

Is this the same problem?????

Hi All,

I've got an '05 MDX and the key remote is not locking / unlocking the doors. All manual functions work fine, can lock / unlock with the key or from the controls in the car. It acts like the remote battery is dead except that I just replaced the battery. Also, the lights flash and there's a click sound from the car, just no lock action.

My dealer charges $125 just to look at it. I'm afraid to ask how much if they actually have to touch it! Remember when mechanics used to give estimates for free?

Thanks!

Can you unlock the driver door from the passenger door switch?

Gasp! I cannot unlock the drivers door from the passenger door switch. Is that a positive symptom of this actuator problem that my dealer seems to have no knowledge of?

If it is the actuator, will the Chilton's manual help me to replace it?

I would guess it is the actuator failing, but it is odd that you can unlock it from the driver door. Try unlocking the door with the key while pulling lightly on the lock spindle thing. If it comes up it could be another indicator of a faulty actuator. I would guess the chiltons manual would have it, but I know there is a link to a good DIY for changing out the door actuator on this site.

It happened again!

well...the lock quit on the passanger door first...yesterday it went out on the drivers rear door.

same story with this one...it was going slower up and down the past few days...and finally it just stuck in the down postiion. i took it to a brakes plus store for an oil change a few days ago and they said they can fix the actuator for around $115 per door. i dont know how much the dealer costs are on this.

also...my power steering hose cracked and i had to get a new hose and all my ps fluid. thankfully the pump didnt burn out.

these little things are annoying...not really serious....but annoying!!!

So my driver side door lock just went out at 93k.

Looks like all the symptoms listed here, no remote access, power lock button doesn't work for just driver side, but manually works.

Called the dealer for an estimate, quoted $93 for the part and about $300 for the fix total. dicks.

So, looks like I'll be doing this one myself. Will it really take 3 hours to do?

If I remember correctly, I bought the part online with shipping for around $30 & had a local body shop install the actuator for $35. I would glady get out for $65 & not waste 3 hours of my time. I think it took them about a 1/2 hour.

Just wanted to say THANKS for these posts!!!! I replaced the door actuators on the passenger side (Dec '09) AND then driver's side (Mar 6, 2010) on my '04 TSX using the combined post from user 'dest' at http://dest.tv/acura/faulty_acura_actuator.html. It explained everything you needed to know to get it done and for all you ladies out there - I'm a woman and I did it! I'm not saying it could be done while blindfolded and I may have gotten frustrated a few times but... I saved a LOT of money doing it myself. Again, thanks to all the posts here. Really appreciate all your help - couldn't have done it without you. ;-)

Not very likely. It's probably considered a wear and tear part.

I have the same combination of problems. Did fixing the acuator fix the display lights for the clock, etc? What did it take to fix everything?

My driver door went out about 2 years ago... got it fixed under warranty. Now passenger door went out and no more warranty. It's 04 TSX with 56K miles. Since I'm the only driver and rarely have passengers, it doesn't bother me much but I'd still like to get it fixed.

Unhappy Sigh

It was bound to happen but after 6 years & 62k miles, I finally have my 1st out of warranty problem: my driver side power lock will not work via key fob or door switch. Guess it was bound to happen & hope that it is cheap to fix.

On a related note: when I 1st got the car new, I had this issue w/ the passenger door but it of course was fixed under warranty.

The drivers went out at 69k..now the passengers is sticky at 81k..dealer goodwilled the first and promised to for the other one.

I see the oem actuator on eBay for about $20 for those tackling this themselves.

Our '05 TSX driver door auto-lock started giving trouble last week; then it worked again and now it's just dead. This is the wife's car and we only have 25K miles on it. We'll check with the dealer to see if they will fix for free and if not, I'll tackle it with the DIY that someone posted. The car has been pretty trouble free up to now. We will finally update the maps this year since they now have my daughter's house on them. Not worth doing it until now.

Took me a while but I finally called the dealership to see how much this would cost: parts are $136.87 per door & labor $165 per door. $301.87 total per door ... wow. Good thing that the key still works ....

The KTC trim tool set made the job of getting the door panel off easy, and no broken clips. So now for the hard part. Is there any information about removing the door latch mechanism? My problem is the left rear door will not open from the inside, at all. And it's not just the child safety latch, that does nothing. I checked the door handle cable and it was connected correctly at the handle end, but it does nothing at the latch mechanism release end. And, the manual door lock butten isn't connected either. Only the elecric lock relase works and someone has to open the door from the outside to let passengers out. I tried to get the lock mechanism out but the previous "mechanic" stripped the heads of the phillips screws. Do I need to remove these screws or is there a way to just fix the latch mechanism from inside the door?????

I wrote a letter to Acura on this issue. Called me a few times with the thanks for letting us know about the problem and I'll be sure to note it. I even linked the thread with all the problems and how Acura should have a tsb/recall for this to make things right for their customers. Oh well at least I tried. I thought maybe they would offer to fix it for free but nope.

Door Lock

My drivers side door lock is doing the same thing... it sometimes unlocks or locks with the remote. I can see the lock wiggeling like it wants to unlock... only a matter of time before it goes.
Thanks for all the info, wish it was a cheaper fix, but glad it wasn't a worse electrical problem.
Not under warranty anymore... 2004, just passed the 100,000 mile mark.

Sounds like the actuator: mine went out at 35k & 44k (driver's door), and rear door went out at 71k. Cost $275 to fix. Sounds like a recall to me!

Ours is slow to unlock also. I thought there would be dirt or something that was slowing it down. At least i know what to expect in the future.

mine has been out for a while. Its so expensive to fix it considering the part is only $35. I called a local mechanic and he said he would need to take the car to the dealer after its done to program the door? is that true?
